Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso, the No. 3 overall pick in last month’s WNBA draft, is hoping to make her season debut on June 1.
Cardoso has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but she revealed her desired return date during an Instagram livestream on Tuesday. Chicago coach Teresa Weatherspoon later confirmed that Cardoso should be good to go on June 1, when the Sky visit No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
“I’m going to go with what Kamilla says,” Weatherspoon said. “I’m trusting Kamilla.”
Cardoso injured her shoulder during the preseason, and the team said that she would end up missing four to six weeks.
But Cardoso was back at practice on Tuesday, working in a limited capacity.
“Just super excited for her to be out at practice today,” Weatherspoon told reporters on Tuesday. “She’s one young lady who’s ready to play.”
A two-time national champion at South Carolina, the 23-year-old Cardoso averaged 14.4 points and 9.7 rebounds across 33 games (32 starts) in her final season with the Gamecocks.
Chicago is off to a 1-1 start this season after going 18-22 in 2023.
