On Sunday, Simone Alexandra Johnson, the daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson announced her professional wrestling name. The 20-year wrestler will use the moniker Ava Raine. She posted a photo of her name written in thin red letters, surrounded by thin, medium and thick white lightning bolts that streaked across the letters.
Although Simone had signed a deal with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in early 2020, she was unable to debut as she faced s few injuries. She underwent surgeries and rehabilitation and is waiting to wrestle her way to fame, just like four generations have done so; on her father’s side. She announced her new wrestling name on her Instagram Story and on Twitter.
Simone is the first child of The Rock and only child of Dany Garcia. Simone’s mother Dany is a producer. She also founded The Garcia Companies. Dwayne Johnson has two other children–daughters Jasmine, 6 and Tiana, 4 with his wife, Lauren Hashian.
Simone follows the hallowed tradition of her father’s family who produced the following wrestlers
‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia–her great grandfather
‘Soulman’ Rocky Johnson–her grandfather and
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson–her father.
When Simone signed her contract with the WWE, her celebrity father said that it was an “honor” that his daughter wanted to follow in his footsteps. Dwayne Johnson added that the phrase “follow in my footsteps” sounded like a cliché and that Simone actually wanted “to create and blaze her own path” which ‘The Rock’ said was “so important.”
Simone has said that she was honored that she could continue with the family’s legacy in wrestling. When she was signed by the WWE, she had mentioned her love for wrestling from an early age. When her deal was signed in February 2020 she had posted a photo on Instagram wearing a grey WWE t-shirt and a huge smile. She had captioned that the post was for the “little girl who fell in love with wrestling & said ‘this will be my life one day’, this is for you.”
