It is suspected that some or one of the killings may have occurred at home. A soundproof room was first reported, but Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison told reporters Monday that information was not true. However, they did find a room with locks in an area that was always off limits to the family who lived inside the home, according to those family members.
Authorities claim that Rex Heuermann’s house in Gilgo Beach, New York, contained “numerous” firearms that were kept behind a “big iron door” in a walk-in vault. Despite only having licenses for 92 weapons, Heuermann allegedly possessed over 200 guns in his suburban Massapequa Park, Long Island, home, according to authorities.
As part of their ongoing search for evidence, investigators have dug up Heuermann’s backyard and peered into the vault, according to Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison on Monday.
This past weekend, police using ground penetrating equipment, a backhoe, and cadaver dogs in searching Heuermann’s house in Massapequa Park, New York, close to the Gilgo Beach area where women were found to be murdered over 11 years ago.
It has been reported that Heuermann is not talking and has been only conversing with this attorney. He maintains his innocence and has not made any statement to the police or anyone else in the jail where he is being held.
Heuermann is also under investigation to be linked to additional murders in different states.
Possible “trophies” and other objects that might have been used in serial killings were sought after by a search warrant for the South Carolina home of the Gilgo Beach suspect, reported The Chester News. The alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer owned property in Chester County and what was found were photographs and possible recordings depicting the victims. He is suspected of killing a South Carolina missing teen.
Although he has not been charged, he is also the main suspect in the killing of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who went missing in 2007.
