On Wednesday, a Shelby County judge issued an injunction that halted a foreclosure sale of Graceland, the estate of the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. A company based in Missouri that had advertised the foreclosure sale later withdrew its claims.
Neither representatives from the company nor Graceland’s heir were present in court when the judge made his decision. Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter Riley Keough filed a lawsuit against the company, saying that they made a fraudulent claim against her mother, saying that she had borrowed money from the company.
According to WREG, Chancellor Joe Dae Jenkins said, “The court will enjoin the sale as requested because the real estate is considered unique under Tennessee law. And in being unique, the loss of the real estate would be considered irreparable harm.”
The judge also observed that the notary, whose signature is reportedly on the 2018 Deed of Trust, gave an affidavit that she had not notarized Lisa Marie Presley’s signature. The Deed of Trust has also not been registered.
Judge Jenkins gave the company Naussany Investments and Private Lending time to proceed. However, it also granted a temporary injunction stopping the foreclosure, allowing Graceland to remain open to the public.
Online court records show no legal filings suggesting that the claim has been dropped. However, some outlets reported that representatives from the company said they would not pursue the case for several reasons.
After the injunction, Elvis Presley Enterprises released the following statement: “Graceland will continue to operate as it has for the past 42 years, ensuring that Elvis fans from around the world can continue to have the best-in-class experience when visiting his iconic home.”
