Shaedon Sharpe’s big 2nd half sends Blazers past Heat

Shaedon Sharpe scored 24 of his 27 points in the second half to help the Portland Trail Blazers post a 127-110 victory over the visiting Miami Heat on Thursday night.

Caleb Love scored 20 points off the bench as the Trail Blazers won their fourth consecutive game and moved above .500.

Portland standout Deni Avdija had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 17-plus minutes before exiting with back soreness early in the third quarter. Avdija recently returned from a three-game absence due to lower-back issues.

Toumani Camara had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Jrue Holiday added 15 points and seven assists for the Trail Blazers. Jerami Grant scored 12 points and fellow backup Robert Williams III collected 10 rebounds for the Trail Blazers.

Bam Adebayo had 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat, who are 1-2 on a five-game road trip.

Miami’s Norman Powell had 18 points but missed all seven of his 3-point attempts, Simone Fontecchio scored 17 points off the bench and Andrew Wiggins had 14 for the Heat.

Miami was just 9 of 45 from 3-point range one game after going 21 of 42 in a victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. Overall, the Heat shot 45.7% from the field.

Portland made 50% of its shots, including 20 of 50 from 3-point range. Sharpe had five treys and Love made four.

Sharpe scored 12 points during Portland’s 39-point third quarter as the Trail Blazers turned a one-point halftime edge into a 103-92 lead.

Portland led by two earlier in the quarter before erupting on a 17-2 tear. Sharpe culminated the surge with a jumper to make it 89-72 with 6:49 remaining.

Sharpe hit a jumper to push the lead to 101-80 with 3:03 left. Miami answered with 12 straight points to get back within single digits.

Sharpe went on a personal 7-0 run in the fourth to put the game away. He knocked down a mid-range jumper, skied high for Love’s lob to slam down a dunk and then drilled a trey to give Portland a 123-105 advantage with 3:31 left.

Sharpe had 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the fourth quarter.

Avdija scored 18 first-half points to help the Trail Blazers hold a 64-63 lead at the break. Adebayo had 17 points in the half for Miami.
