Two caregivers have been taken into custody and could face felony charges as four children have ingested fentanyl by the way of gummies that were candies in Amherst County, VA .
The investigation was subsequently turned over to the Sheriff’s office. They analyzed the gummies for several drugs, according to Lt. Dallas Hill.
Lt. Hill stated, “We conducted additional testing and discovered the true cause.”
“Students who ingested the gummies exhibited symptoms of nausea, vomiting, headache, and some muscle spasm,” said Dr. Wells. “A student brought a sandwich bag containing gummies to school and then shared those gummies with six classmates during lunch,” said Amherst County Public Schools superintendent, Dr. William Wells. “We need to wake up as a county and as a community to realize that these things are real these things are happening; it’s not a Richmond problem; it’s not a Washington, D.C. problem; it’s an Amherst County problem,” said Dr. Wells.
Authorities detained Clifford Dugan Jr. and Nicole Sanders. Dugan is charged with possessing a firearm while having a criminal record; Sanders is accused of narcotics possession; and both men are charged with delinquent behavior involving minors.
