Seton Hall aims to get right vs. Division II Lincoln

Seton Hall’s pleasant start to the season feels like a distant memory at this point.

The Pirates (4-4) hope to snap a three-game losing streak Wednesday when Division II foe Lincoln (5-4) pays a visit to Seton Hall’s campus in South Orange, N.J.

Seton Hall won four of its first five games under first-year coach Shaheen Holloway, including a 36-point rout of 2022 March Madness darling Saint Peter’s and a buzzer-beating win over Memphis.

However, the next three games for the Pirates have featured a 13-point loss to Oklahoma, a five-point defeat to a Siena team that previously lost to Army and Harvard and then a 26-point beatdown at the hands of Kansas.

“I’m not happy with anything right now,” Holloway said after the defending champion Jayhawks pounded his team, 91-65.

Kadary Richmond was somewhat of a bright spot in that contest with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, although he did commit seven of the Pirates’ 16 turnovers.

“I was just trying to figure out how to pick my spots and be aggressive,” Richmond said. “I tried to make a play whenever I could on the court.”

Tyrese Samuel is Seton Hall’s leading scorer on the season, averaging 11.5 points. Dre Davis (11.4) and Al-Amir Dawes (11.3) are right on his tail. Davis has missed the last two games with knee tendinitis and is considered day-to-day.

For Lincoln, this is the lone Division I game on its 2022-23 schedule. Former Lions coach Corey Lowery is an assistant on the Pirates’ staff.

“I am looking forward to witnessing a sea of orange and blue in the stands when we get to Jersey,” Lincoln coach Jason Armstrong said. “This will be a great test for our guys to go against some D1 talent.”

Korey Williams leads the team in scoring at 19.9 points per game with sparkling shooting percentages from the field (50 percent), 3-point range (50 percent) and the foul line (79.1 percent). He also leads the team in assists and steals and ranks second in rebounds.
