On Sunday, the popular series House of the Dragon ended its first season with a finale that shocked viewers as it brought some heartbreaking news. Considering the plot so far, with misunderstandings by Queen Alicent, fans were expecting a shocking end but not heartbreak.
Queen Alicent misunderstood King Viserys’s final words before his death and thought that he wanted their son Aegon and not Princess Rhaenyra to be the heir to the Iron Throne. This paved the way for fans of the series to consider a possibility of a generational war two hundred years before the events that took place in the Game of Thrones. But what happened in the finale was way beyond imagination.
Sunday’s finale had an unexpected sad turn in the plot. Princess Rhaenyra decided to be reasonable and not plunge into war even though she learned that Aegon was crowned as King after the death of her father Viserys.
Along with her Black Council Rhaenyra begin to collect allies from the realm. She wanted to find out which of her allies would remain loyal to the oath that had made Rhaenyra the original and true heir of the Westeros.
Rhaenyra explained that she didn’t want “to rule over a kingdom of ash and bone.” She said that she had been chosen by her father, the king as a defender of the realm. But circumstances lead to the first salvo being fired.
Rhaenyra allowed her sons to travel by dragon. Jacaerys traveled to Winterfell in the North while Lucerys traveled to Storm’s End in the South.
Lucerys met Aemond and due to their past history, the ensuing battle ended in tragedy in a dance of dragons. For those who have seen the episode, you know what happens next, for those who haven’t, either you can guess it or watch it. After the battle between the two, all fans can conclude that Season 2 will be a season to avenge death.
