Scottie Scheffler favored, raking in most bets for PGA Championship

World No. 1 golfer and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler appears to be an obvious bet to win this week’s PGA Championship. Just because it’s obvious doesn’t mean people will shy away.

Scheffler has received the highest percentage of both the handle and the total tickets at BetMGM for the second major of the season, the sportsbook said Monday morning.

Scheffler is the co-favorite, tied with Spaniard Jon Rahm, at +1200 at BetMGM. But Scheffler is responsible for 19.8 percent of the handle. The next closest on the board, Jordan Spieth, has raked in just 9.6 percent by comparison.

BetMGM said Scheffler represents 10.6 percent of the tickets, with Spieth (+1800) in second at 6.4 percent. Collin Morikawa (+2000), the 2020 PGA champ, is third in both categories with 4.3 percent of the tickets and 5.4 percent of the handle.

Rahm was tied with Morikawa at 5.4 percent of the handle and had received just 3.9 percent of the tickets.

At DraftKings, Rahm’s odds shortened slightly to make him the overall favorite at +1100 while Scheffler and Justin Thomas stood at +1200. At PointsBet, Scheffler was the sole favorite at +1100, and at Caesars Sportsbook (William Hill), Scheffler and Rahm were co-favorites at +1100.

Scheffler won four tournaments — the Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGC-Match Play and the Masters — in a stretch of six starts to kick off a breakout year on tour. Rahm, the former world No. 1 and the 2021 U.S. Open champ, won earlier this month at the Mexico Open.

The PGA Championship begins Thursday at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
