Kam Jones matched his season-high with 32 points and David Joplin added 13 as No. 5 Marquette pulled away in the second half for an 88-74 nonconference victory over No. 11 Wisconsin as the in-state rivals met Saturday at Milwaukee, Wis.

Marquette (9-1), which trailed 39-37 at the half, went in front 61-53 with 12:17 remaining when Jones was fouled while sinking a 3-pointer and added the free throw. The Golden Eagles extended the lead to 70-55 on a three-point play by Stevie Mitchell with 8:49 remaining.

Marquette and Wisconsin each were coming off their first loss of the season. Marquette lost at No. 6 Iowa State 81-70 on Wednesday, while the Badgers (8-2) lost at home to Michigan 67-64 on Tuesday in their Big Ten opener.

Jones, who was 6-of-21 shooting in the loss to Iowa State, hit 12 of 21 shots Saturday, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range. Chase Ross and Mitchell added 12 points apiece to end Wisconsin’s three-game winning streak in the series.

Max Klesmit snapped out of a shooting slump to lead Wisconsin with 22 points by going 6 of 11 from 3-point range. Klesmit entered shooting 25.4 percent from beyond the arc and had made just three of his last 21.

John Blackwell had 17 points for the Badgers and John Tonje added 14, but just two in the second half after picking up his third foul less than three minutes after the break with Wisconsin up 45-44.

Tonje, who entered averaging 22.3 points, sat out the next six minutes.

The Golden Eagles had a 44-28 edge on points in the paint and also scored 18 points off Wisconsin’s season-high 16 turnovers.

Blackwell hit two free throws to give Wisconsin its biggest lead of a tightly contested first half at 39-34, but Chase Ross was fouled on a 3-pointer and hit all three free throws to make it 39-37.
