
Samsung is planning to offer a credit card in the United States along with a major bank according to a report by a popular news agency. Samsung money by SoFi currently offers a debit card as well as a cash management account. However, it is not a credit card, and the Korean giant is now planning to offer its own credit card. Samsung Wallet allows fans to add existing credit as well as debit cards of US banks and networks to its wallet.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Samsung will offer a credit card in the US. The electronics giant is reportedly in talks with Barclays, London, and could launch a cobranded credit card. It could use the Visa payment network.
Major rival Apple offers a credit card in the US that is issued by Goldman Sachs and powered by the Mastercard network. It is primarily used with Apple Pay. Samsung is looking at a similar model and is expected to launch the Samsung credit card with a major bank. The agency also reported that negotiations are in the final stage as both Barclays and Samsung are looking to expanding their footprint in the US.
The Wall Street Journal also said that documents obtained by them suggest that other financial services could also be offered in the US. Some of them include savings accounts, digital prepaid accounts, as well as buy now pay later options.
CWEB and other analysts agree that Apple has built a whole financial ecosystem around its products in the US. It is planning to launch similar systems in South Korea.
Samsung already has a strong network in South Korea. It is now planning to launch a similar financial ecosystem in the US, hoping to increase sales as many web fans are in favour of using company cards to buy company products, as they generally get better deals from the company.
