Police have detained the man who they believe killed two adolescent Indiana girls five years ago, according to reports. 50-year-old Richard Allen was arrested and put in jail on Friday in connection with the 2017 slayings of 13-year-old Abigail “Abby” Williams and 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German, several outlets reported.
Allen was taken into custody in Indiana after midnight on Friday, however it is yet unknown exactly what charges he is facing. A state-issued image of the prospective offender, who has avoided law enforcement for more than six years, was obtained by a local source recently. Although they declined to reveal the suspect’s identify, Indiana law enforcement sources warned the outlet that a significant development in the murder case was imminent.
The two adolescent girls, Abigail Williams and Liberty German, were killed in February 2017 not far from Delphi, Indiana, which is located around 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis. On February 13, 2017, the two girls went missing while out for a hike at the Monon High Bridge, just outside of Delphi. Since Abigail had spent the previous night at Liberty’s house, there was no school that day. Their remains were discovered on February 14, 2017, by a search team in a rough location close to the route.

Since the bodies of the teens were discovered in 2017, their murders have remained unsolved. According to Indiana State Police, the girls vanished on the afternoon of February 13. They were let off in Delphi at the Monon High Bridge to stroll on their own, but were not picked up at the scheduled hour.
Prior to their kidnapping, Libby shared a Snapchat photo of Abby strolling along a train bridge, which was the last time either child was ever seen alive. According to investigators, their bodies were found the next day in a forested area about half a mile north of where they were put off. Their mutilated bodies were discovered the next day along a railroad bridge close to Dear Creek. While doing their investigation, police came upon an audio clip that Libby made that deadly afternoon when a man can be heard saying “down the hill.”
Nearly six years later, the investigation has sparked a lot of online speculation due to perplexing bits of information, such as a video from Libby German’s phone at the moment she vanished that appears to show a man telling the girls to go “down the hill.” Since then, the killings of the two have gone unsolved, and Allen’s arrest is the first time his name has been linked to the case in the media.
During a news conference on Monday, more details about Allen’s arrest and his conceivable involvement in the long-unsolved crime will likely be revealed.
