Retail Holiday Sales Rose 7.6% Where Are The Shopping Bargains?

According to one metric, holiday sales increased as American spending held steady over the crucial shopping season despite rising costs for everything from food to rent.

According to Mastercard Spending Pulse, which records all types of payments including cash and debit cards, holiday sales increased 7.6%, a slower rate than the 8.5% increase from a year earlier when consumers started spending the money they had saved during the early COVID outbreak.

Compared to a 5% decrease in    jewelry and gadgets, apparel saw a 4.4% increase. Online sales increased 10.6% over the previous year, and in-person purchases increased 6.8%. Over 2021, department stores only saw a modest 1% rise.

However, since the middle class in the United States has diminished and more casual dress has been acceptable for work and special events, the garment sector has suffered. Since at least 2016, apparel and footwear have grown very slowly in comparison to other categories and have been losing wallet share “for decades,” according to UBS analysts in a research note published on December 18.

Looking for some post-holiday deals? You’re in luck, whatever your shopping needs are. The day after Christmas, Walmart will be open as usual.

Walmart was closed on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, but it will reopen on December 26 for all of your post-holiday needs. On Monday, stores will open at their regular times, which means 6 a.m. opening and 11 p.m. closing.

Make sure you’re a member of  Walmart+. Get a free 30-day trial by clicking here. You’ll get free shipping and grocery delivery, gas and prescription savings, first access to major deals, and much more. (Those without Walmart+, by the way, still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.)

Would you believe a Smart TV for less than $150? It truly is a Christmas miracle! This  TCL 32-inch Smart TV  is now only $150 and comes with brilliant Full HD resolution and dual band WiFi, allowing you to easily access all of your favorite movies and TV shows. It also includes the user-friendly Roku interface, which allows you to watch over 500,000 movies and TV shows.

According to the research, American consumers’ desire to spend on  clothing, footwear, and accessories in December decreased by 15.7% from 2019, the largest drop since the pandemic started, with a score that was worse than any December “since at least 2013.” All income levels are affected by the slowdown, with even upper income spending intentions falling 13.3%.

Research  by Alix Partners reports, “ The survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults reveals that inflation is causing 43% of women and 30% of men to deprioritize footwear purchases, with only 15% and 25%, respectively, saying inflation is having no impact. Inflation is having the most impact, the survey finds, on footwear purchases among older people–and that even among younger adults, inflation is likely to dampen spending for footwear during this current holiday season. In particular, the survey finds that a hefty 41-54% of those ages 45 and older are deprioritizing shoe buying due to inflation, and that 20-27% of those ages 18 to 34 expect inflation to impact their shoe purchases during this holiday season.”
