Reports: Andrew Wiggins expected to return this week

Andrew Wiggins is expected to rejoin the Golden State Warriors this week after missing the past 22 games for personal reasons, multiple outlets reported Monday.

It’s unlikely Wiggins would play in any of the Warriors’ final regular-season games, a stretch of three contests that begins Tuesday at home vs. Oklahoma City. Wiggins will attend that game, per the reports.

The Warriors (41-38) are clinging to the sixth seed in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The regular season ends Sunday. The Warriors are 12-10 without their All-Star swingman.

Wiggins, who hasn’t played since Feb. 13, has reportedly been tending to a family matter. The Athletic reported that Wiggins has been away to help his father deal with a “serious medical situation.”

Wiggins, 27, is fourth on the team with 17.1 points per game. He’s shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 38.6 percent from the 3-point line.

Head coach Steve Kerr said last week the return of Wiggins was big for the team in multiple ways.

“He’s a great player but he’s a great human being. He’s just a great teammate, I love coaching him,” Kerr said. “So anytime you see one of your guys struggling, dealing with something, all you can do is support that player and give them space and that’s what we’ve tried to do.”
