Report: LaMarcus Aldridge to work out for Mavericks

LaMarcus Aldridge is eyeing another return to the NBA.

The free agent forward/center will work out for the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, ESPN reported Monday night.

The seven-time All-Star last played for the Brooklyn Nets in 2021-22, seeing action in 47 games (12 starts) and averaging 12.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 block per game. Aldridge has been unsigned since.

He joined the Nets late in the 2020-21 regular season after negotiating a buyout agreement with the San Antonio Spurs. After just five games, he surprisingly announced his retirement from the NBA due to an irregular heartbeat and related health concerns, though later that year he was medically cleared to return to basketball.

Aldridge, 37, would be the latest addition to a Mavericks team trying to build a contender around Luka Doncic for a late-season push. The Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving, whom Aldridge played with in Brooklyn, and also planned to sign veteran guard Justin Holiday as of Monday.

In 1,076 career games (997 starts) with the Portland Trail Blazers, Spurs and Nets, Aldridge has career averages of 19.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
