Jeff Van Gundy has agreed to terms to become the lead assistant on the Los Angeles Clippers’ coaching staff, ESPN reported on Tuesday morning.
Van Gundy, 62, spent last season as a consultant for the Boston Celtics, who captured their 18th championship in franchise history on Monday. He served as a television analyst for ESPN over the previous 16 seasons.
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is very familiar with Van Gundy. Lue was coached by Van Gundy on the Houston Rockets in 2004, and the two also were together on the Team USA staff at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The departure of lead assistant Dan Craig to the Chicago Bulls opened a slot for Van Gundy with the Clippers.
Van Gundy coached 11 seasons in the NBA, going 430-318 with the New York Knicks (1995-2002) and Rockets (2003-07).
