Report: Jazz, Quin Snyder talks could end his tenure

Quin Snyder could walk away from the Utah Jazz if contract negotiations aren’t soon fruitful, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Snyder remains engaged in negotiations with owner Ryan Smith and CEO of basketball operations Danny Ainge, but the report states the attempt to extend his current contract and secure Snyder for next season and beyond have not been fruitful.

The change in ownership and installing Ainge as the top decision-maker in the basketball operation has shifted thinking within the franchise in some ways, but there is no rift between Snyder and the new brass, per reports.

General manager Justin Zanik said in April that Snyder is regarded as one of the best coaches in the NBA.

“There is no other partner I would rather have as a coach and as a leader of our players and as a partner in our front office than Quin Snyder,” he said.

To date, there has been no threat to walk away or end talks by either side, per the report.

Snyder and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr have eight seasons with their current NBA employer, and Utah has a six-year postseason streak.

Only Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) and Erik Spoelstra (Miami Heat) have been employed by their current team as head coach longer than Snyder.
