The annual Gavitt Tipoff Games will not be played during the 2024-25 campaign, College Hoops Today reported Sunday.
Since 2015, the series has run annually — except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic — featuring eight games between teams in the Big East and Big Ten. But the two conferences are currently in the final year of their agreement to hold the Gavitt Games, leaving the future of the event in doubt.
An agreement to continue the Games was almost reached, but the Big Ten was worried about scheduling with UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington set to join the conference for 2024-25, per the report.
This season’s Gavitt Games will run from Nov. 13-17. The Big Ten dominated last year’s series, winning six of the eight games.
