Matt Reeves directed “The Batman” continues to break records with Robert Pattinson’s dark and edgy performance as the caped crusader. However, fans received an additional surprise, on Thursday. The director released a deleted scene from the movie that showed a face to face encounter between Robert Pattinson as Batman and Barry Keoghan as the Joker.
The scene was shown on a game website that shows similar word puzzles used by the Riddler in the movie and was later seen on Twitter. After being puzzled by the cryptic clues left by the Riddler for him, Batman resolves to figure out the working of the villain’s mind. So, he decided to visit his old nemesis, the Joker.
The idea behind the scene was to show that Gotham was filled with villains. It also suggests that the Joker, played by Irish actor Keoghan was one of the first villains whom the Batman successfully sent to prison.
In the scene the Joker tells Batman, “Almost our anniversary, isn’t it?” This gives the audience a clue that there had been a relationship between both of them and that Batman was responsible for getting him into Arkham.

The clip also explores deeper issues when the Joker tries to get Batman to agree with the Riddler’s belief that getting rid of Gotham’s corrupt leaders was a decision that had to be made.
The Joker, as his name suggests, jokes with Batman and says that the caped crusader was terrified as he might not be convinced deep down that the Riddler’s actions were wrong and that it posed a conundrum and he cackles with his famous laugh.
In case you wondered why such a pivotal scene has been cut from the movie, it is reportedly a type pf franchise building. The deleted scene from “The Batman” is released later to continue to whip up interest in the franchise as the original movie is doing well at the box office.
Warner Bros has scored well as “The Batman” crossed the $600 million mark recently and is still going strong. Keeping interest alive in the movie and the franchise will definitely pay off in the short and long term at the box office. Why else would the movie studio delete a scene that involved one of the greatest villains of all times–The Joker with one of the greatest superheroes, Batman? We wonder…don’t you?
