Justise Winslow had a busy Friday.
The 27-year-old forward signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors, who subsequently waived him. According to multiple media reports, the team hopes to move him to its Raptors 905 affiliate in the G League.
Winslow didn’t play in the Raptors’ 134-98 rout of the visiting Washington Wizards in a preseason game Friday night.
Winslow averaged 6.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field in 29 games last season with the Portland Trail Blazers. His season was cut short, however, after he sprained his ankle in a 101-98 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 21.
Winslow underwent ankle surgery in late March but is expected to be ready for the upcoming season.
The Heat selected Winslow with the 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft, and he spent five seasons in Miami. He then played for the Memphis Grizzlies (2020-21) and the Los Angeles Clippers (2021-22) before he was traded to Portland in February 2022.
In 344 career games (128 starts), Winslow has averages of 8.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
The Raptors also waived forward Mouhamadou Gueye and guard Jeff Dowtin Jr. In addition, multiple media outlets reported that Toronto waived center Makur Maker.
Toronto opens the season with a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 25.
