A US judge has dismissed a rape lawsuit claim against the celebrity soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, known as Cristiano Ronaldo, by a Nevada woman in Las Vegas. The accuser’s lawyer was found to have relied on leaked and stolen information.
Former American model Kathryn Mayorga claimed in 2009 that the Manchester United footballer raped her in a hotel in Las Vegas. In a U.S. court, the Nevada lady lost her quest to force soccer star to pay millions of dollars more than the $375,000 in hush money she got after claiming he raped her in Las Vegas in 2009.
Mayorga claims that the Juventus star sexually attacked her in 2009 after they met at the Palms hotel’s Rain Nightclub. She did, however, file a criminal complaint against the singer, claiming that she lacked the mental capacity to make the pact.
The footballer’s legal team does not deny that the two had sex, but insists that the encounter was consensual and that a confidentiality agreement forbids both parties from discussing it. He has never been charged criminally in connection with the allegations.
The issue with Mayorga’s case came in 2017 when Stovall’s legal docs purportedly proving the celebrity’s guilt were trickled to the German magazine Der Spiegel and some other European publications. The materials included a questionnaire from August 2009 in which Ronaldo allegedly confessed to hearing Mayorga say “no and stop multiple times” during intercourse.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey in Las Vegas dismissed the case to punish the accuser’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, for ‘bad-faith conduct’ and the use of ‘purloined’ confidential records, which the judge said stained the case beyond redemption.
Dorsey stated in her 42-page judgment that dismissing a lawsuit altogether with no ability to re-file it is a serious consequence, but that Stovall’s actions had injured Ronaldo. She stated that strong penalties are warranted.
The ruling came after Stovall missed a procedural deadline in his bid for roughly $25 million in damages, saying Ronaldo and his friend allowed the hacked documents to be published despite the awareness that they harmed the soccer star’s reputation.
Dorsey followed U.S. Magistrate Judge Daniel Albregts’ 2021 recommendations, which chastised Stovall’s actions and reliance on leaked and secret materials. WebFans are super excited.
