Rabbit debuted its R1 at CES 2024 and was pleased that all preorders of its first batch of AI-powered devices sold out. The company has announced a second batch of preorders on its site, which also sold out. The company hopes that its R1 pocket device becomes the personal assistant of their customers.

Testers who have used the R1 say that the pocket device powered by AI is cute and has also evoked nostalgia. The R1 garnered much interest from consumers, testers, and the media. Rabbit launched pre-orders at $199 and sold 10,000 units in 24 hours, successfully closing its first batch of preorders.

Rabbit is planning to ship the first batch by late March. However, seeing the immense popularity of the first preorders, the company has opened a second batch at the same price of $199. These R1 will reach customers in April or May. The second batch also sold out, and the company announced a third batch that will be delivered between May and June of this year.

Rabbit Founder and CEO Jesse Lyu described the R1 as a “LAM-powered Tamagotchi” on social media. It is square and approximately half of an iPhone’s size. It promises a more personal experience when compared with a smartphone.

The R1 has a rotating camera, a push-to-talk button, an analog scroll wheel, and a 2.88-inch touchscreen. Other features include 128GB of internal storage and a SIM card slot for data. It is also global regulatory compliant with a USB-C port for charging.

Rabbit uses its operating system called RabbitOS. Its Large Action Model (LAM) allows the device to play music, buy groceries, and send messages using a single interface. It also allows you to train the machine on how it should interact with a specific app.
