Queen Elizabeth II has consistently been opening the Highland Games in Scotland since she became the Queen of Britain. However, the 96-year old monarch will not be opening the games this year, the first time she has been indisposed in her 70-year reign, due to reported mobility issues. Prince Charles officially opened The Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Archway, at the Braemar Highland Gathering in Scotland. After he cut the heather rope, the Prince of Wales, along with his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, sat at the Royal Pavilion and watched the events.
Prince Charles, the Duke of Rothesay will also officiate the awards ceremony as events take place throughout the day. He has been accompanied by his wife Camilla, his sister Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Lawrence.
Earlier this week, the Queen was reportedly “carefully considering” her fitness level as she has never missed opening the games. So, there is another first but this time a pleasant one as the games have been live streamed for the first time, so the Queen and the nation can watch the games online.
The Queen also put aside a trip next week that will be the formal farewell event of the exit of beleaguered Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of Britain, who is expected to be replaced by Liz Truss. Instead, Boris Johnson, is expected to be received by her at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, following which the new Prime Minister of Britain, will be received by the Queen.
Queen Elizabeth made her last public appearance on July 21, 2022. She was seen at the Aberdeen airport in Scotland as she moved to Balmoral, her traditional homestay between July and October. The Queen has been getting lots of visitors in Balmoral including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to visit London on September 3, but it remains unknown whether they would visit the Queen at Balmoral, Scotland.
