Queen Elizabeth II addressed the nation on her platinum jubilee year and made her son and his wife very happy. The 95-year old queen envisioned the future of her son Prince Charles as the King and said that she sincerely wished that when the time came, Camilla would be known as “Queen Consort” as she continued her own loyal service.
The significant announcement made about titles indicated that both direct heirs: son Charles and grandson William were aware of the news before it was announced. The monarch of the nation is the only one who is able to define royal titles.
Although Prince Charles and Lady Diana had a fairytale wedding, Camilla did not. As time passed the public fall in love with Camilla in her new role as Charles’ wife.
Camilla remained sensitive to the situation and never took the title of Princess of Wales, which was the title of Princess Diana, but has been known by the title of Duchess of Cornwall. She has behaved with dignity throughout the backlash she faced for decades.
Queen Elizabeth II also said that she renewed the pledge she gave in 1947 and that her life would always be devoted to the service of the people. She said that she had “a sense of hope and optimism” for the year ahead. She expressed gratitude for her partner, the late Prince Philip and the rest of her family for their support.
The queen ended her message by saying that she would continue “to serve you with all my heart” and that she hoped that the jubilee would bring the people together after the recent difficult years.
Prince Charles also congratulated his mother as she has reached her platinum jubilee. He thanked her for the honor she bestowed on his “darling wife” as the Queen in her announcement said that she wished that Camilla would be “Queen Consort” when Prince Charles became the King of the United Kingdom.
