In her first speech after becoming Queen Consort, Camilla has remembered her friend and mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II. She paid tribute to the late Queen at a reception in Buckingham Palace where she said that she and King Charles drew “immense comfort” from the thousands of messages that they had received after the late Queen’s demise on September, this year.
Camilla addressed the winners of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition and said, “I cannot begin without paying tribute to my dear mother-in-law, Her late Majesty, who is much in our thoughts today and who is so greatly missed by us all. She added that she and her husband had derived a huge amount of comfort from condolences messages that had been received and were still being received “from the four corners of the world.”
The Queen Consort also praised the written word and said that it has a lot of ability and could help to connect people, to heal as well as to reassure people and to give hope in the middle of grief. Camilla Queen Consort has been a book lover and patron of more than six causes related to literature so a deep connection with the written word is expected from her. She also spoke of its appreciation in the nation and in the Commonwealth.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition has been held since 1883. It is considered to be the oldest essay writing competition in the world for schools. There were more than 26,322 entries this year, from countries belonging to the Commonwealth and had four winners from the following countries:
The United Kingdom
Australia
India and
New Zealand.
Queen Elizabeth II was a patron of the competition. She also had an enduring love for the nations that belong to the Commonwealth. Royal fans praised Camilla Queen Consort for giving a beautiful speech and a loving tribute to the late Queen.
