The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton arrived early, on Thursday, at the Westminster Abbey, in London, for a carol service. This is the second year that she is hosting the service, as a solo initiative. Kate said that the service was in honor of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away in September. All the members of the royal family attended the service along with inspirational guests who had been invited.
The abbey and its environs looked festive with snow and Christmas trees. The ambience of Christmas was not the only highlight of the decorations. One Christmas tree had small Paddington bears hanging on it, in a nod to the overwhelmingly popular and humorous skit of Queen Elizabeth II with Britain’s favorite icon, Paddington Bear, during the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebration.
King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, the Countess of Wessex, royal cousins of Prince William and others were present at the service. The two elder children of the Prince and Princess of Wales: Prince George and Princess Charlotte also attended the service. The Duke of Kent made a rare public appearance, together with the Duchess. Other lords and ladies and several distinguished and inspirational attendees also attended the service. Kate Middleton’s family also appeared, in support of the Princess of Wales’ carol service.
Some of the popular performances were from Westend star Samantha Barks. Alfie Boe and Melanie C. performed a duet. Prince Williams read a tribute to the late Queen and so did Hugh Bonville, of Paddington fame. Fans are super excited.
The carol service will be broadcast on Christmas Eve, on ITV. It will be a part of Royal Carols: Together At Christmas. The special program will have a narration by celebrity Catherine Zeta Jones. Additional content featuring an introduction by host Princess Catherine of Wales, tributes to Queen Elizabeth II and films that highlight the services of individuals who put in tremendous efforts to support others, will also be included in the Christmas Eve Special.
