President Joe Biden issued a statement on Thursday commemorating the life of Nex Benedict, a nonbinary teenager from Oklahoma who tragically died by suicide following an assault in a school restroom last month.
“The recent passing of Nex Benedict deeply saddens Jill and me,” Biden stated that it is essential for every young individual to have the basic entitlement and liberty to express their true selves and to experience a sense of security and encouragement inside their educational institutions and localities. “Nex Benedict, an individual who simply desired to be acknowledged, ought to still be present among us now.”
“Since the start of this investigation, the Owasso Police Department has noticed numerous signs suggesting that this death was a result of suicide,” stated Lt. Sue Benedict, the teenager’s grandmother and legal guardian, voiced concern about a head injury in a 911 call on February 8th.
