According to the New York Times, portions of Twitter’s source code were recently posted online via GitHub but were removed after the social media site submitted a DMCA request. According to the request, which GitHub has made publicly available online, the information that was leaked includes “proprietary source code for Twitter’s platform and internal tools.”
GitHub, a popular code hosting site, is currently owned by Microsoft Corp.
The social media platform submitted a DMCA request to have the code removed, and it has asked a judge to require GitHub to reveal who is to blame.
Our “algorithm” is overly complex & not fully understood internally. People will discover many silly things , but we’ll patch issues as soon as they’re found!

The GitHub profile linked to the DMCA takedown displays a single (non-public) code contribution from early January, according to The New York Times, suggesting that the source code may have been available for several months before being taken down. According to the name of the account, “FreeSpeechEnthusiast,” Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, has previously referred to himself as a “free speech absolutist.”
Elon Musk, the billionaire who purchased Twitter last October for $44 billion and then took the company private, faces new difficulties as a result of the leak. Twitter has descended into disarray as a result of widespread layoffs. Twitter apparently implemented code freezes ahead of layoffs out of concern that departing workers could try to harm the company on their way out.
