Porsche (POHAY) is shifting its focus away from combustion engines, opting not to invest in new Boxster, Cayman, or gas-powered Macan generations. As it gears up for the “most powerful range” of models in its history, Porsche has experienced a significant drop in deliveries of its sole electric vehicle, the Taycan, in the first half of 2024.
Taycan deliveries plummeted by over 50% following the introduction of the updated 2025 model. However, Porsche reports growing demand for the new Macan Electric, with deliveries set to begin later this year.
The 2025 Taycan, unveiled in February, boasts range, power, and charging speed enhancements. Its starting price is $99,400, up from $90,900 for the previous model.
These new Taycan models are expected to arrive in US showrooms this summer. Additionally, Porsche will deliver the Macan Electric, its second EV, later this year.
CEO Oliver Blume announced that the new Macan Electric had already garnered a substantial order intake, with 10,000 orders recorded in March. Despite a 7% decline in global sales, Porsche lays the groundwork for its future lineup.
The brand faced significant challenges in China, where deliveries dropped by 33%. Given the higher production costs of EVs, it remains uncertain if Porsche can achieve the same profit margins as its internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.
Porsche has extensively updated the Taycan, enhancing its power, range, acceleration, and charging speed while sharpening its design and differentiating the Turbo models.
All Taycan versions now feature more standard equipment and the latest Porsche Driver Experience, which includes a fully digital display, versatile customization options, and intuitive operation.
These updates apply to all three body variants: the Taycan Sports Sedan, Taycan Cross Turismo (with an available off-road design package), and Taycan Sport Turismo.
Each model offers four powertrain options, including rear- and all-wheel drive variants. The revised versions are expected to arrive at Porsche Centers in spring 2024.
