Poor Things is an unusual film with a captivating storyline with concealed meaning. The film is a dark comedy-drama that explores the intricate process of Bella’s creation and her unforeseen sexual awakening. The persona portrayed by Willem Dafoe is captivating.
The sets and costumes are stunning, and the performances by Stone, Defoe, and Ruffalo are exceptional.
Bella and Duncan commence a magnificent expedition, commencing in Lisbon, where they engage in regular sexual activity. Duncan clandestinely transports Bella onto a cruise ship when she gets challenging for him to manage. Bella forms friendships with Martha and Harry, who broaden her intellectual horizons by introducing her to philosophy. Duncan endeavors to hinder her growth, but his efforts are unsuccessful. He is frustrated and engages in excessive drinking and gambling.
While making a halt in Alexandria, Bella observes the immense hardship endured by the impoverished and gets very distressed. She consigns Duncan’s profits to dishonest individuals within the team, who deceitfully pledge to distribute it to the underprivileged. Due to financial constraints, Bella and Duncan cannot continue the remainder of their journey. As a result, they are left in Marseille and proceed to travel to Paris.
