This came close to five days after 29-year-old Lauren Heike was discovered dead on a hiking trail in Libby Street. The victim was discovered dead close to her home, at 6500 East Libby Street, on a popular hiking trail.
Sgt. Melissa Soliz of the Phoenix Police Department reported an arrest of a man in his 20s without mentioning his name or any more information.
On April 29, while hiking on the Reach 11 route just north of Phoenix, Lauren Heike was brutally attacked by an unidentified attacker. The Phoenix Police Department reported that Lauren Heike was attacked from behind and suffered injuries to her body, but they did not release the exact cause of death.

According to Soliz, the individual who was detained is the same man who can be seen sprinting in a brief surveillance video that was made public as part of the inquiry. According to reports, the man in the video was between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall. He had a rucksack on and was dressed in black attire.
A news release from the Phoenix Police Department said that on Saturday at around 10.30 am, officers were called to a 911 call reporting a woman who had been discovered deceased in the desert close to 6500 Libby Street. Lauren’s body was apparently hidden until police arrived, preventing other people from noticing the body on the hiking trail. Her grieving parents described their daughter as a witty and loving person who will be sorely missed after the catastrophe.
Police have confirmed that the suspect detained on Thursday is the same person seen in the surveillance video, and they have added that DNA evidence has connected him to the murder.
