The man from North Carolina accused of shooting a six-year-old girl and her parents after a basketball rolled into his yard was apprehended in Florida. On Thursday afternoon, Robert Louis Singletary turned himself into the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, around 600 miles from the shooting.
According to Hillsborough County arrest records, Singletary is being jailed without bond on a fugitive warrant. Despite the fact that Singletary lacked any identification, local officials eventually managed to verify his identity and let North Carolina police know that he was in prison. He is due to appear in court in Florida on Friday, to discuss his extradition.
Singletary was charged by North Carolina officials with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of firearm possession by a felon, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or seriously injure.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, he was found guilty in 2017 of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to murder or seriously injure someone. He was freed from prison on parole in September 2020 after a $250,000 bond. He was accused of hitting his girlfriend with a small sledgehammer and forcing her to clean up the mess before leaving in December 2022.
Singletary is now charged with firing on four of his neighbors, striking two of them, grazing another, and missing a fourth. According to authorities, William White is still hospitalized in a severe condition in Charlotte. He had liver damage and a punctured lung, according to reports. Ashley Hildebrand, his wife, suffered an elbow graze. After having bullet pieces removed from her cheek, his 6-year-old daughter Kinsley White was discharged from the hospital.
Eyewitnesses have claimed that a lost basketball is to blame for the attack, although police have not confirmed this due to the continuing investigation. Children reportedly came to recover a basketball that had rolled into Singletary’s yard, according to neighbor Jonathan Robertson. He claimed that Singletary, who had previously shouted at neighborhood children, went inside, retrieved his gun, and started shooting.
This is the fourth shooting in less than a week after a teen in Missouri accidentally rang the wrong doorbell, a young woman in New York was killed after her friends’ car turned into the wrong driveway and two cheerleaders in Texas were shot after mistakenly approaching the wrong parked car after practice.
