Beverly Hills Assistant Chief of Police Marc Coopwood told the BHCC they are planning to close Rodeo Drive to drivers and pedestrians between Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards election Day Nov. 3-4.
Concerning the prior state of unrest in the George Floyd protest, in which Beverly Hills was heavily destroyed and looted. The Beverly Hills police department will be on high alert and will have 135 officers from BHPD working. As of Halloween Night, October 31st, 2020 police officers will be on tactical alert and have 12 hour rotating shifts. A SWAT team from Santa Paula will be used as backup along with 80 private security guards, and ex-military or law enforcement are to patrol the city starting on Halloween to deter criminal activity.
If the city feels there is reason to keep the closures longer, they will do so. Beverly Hills PD issues dire warning retailers to board up fearing rioting and chaos if Donald Trump wins.
K-rail cement barricades will be placed as to not allow any vehicle or foot traffic on the Rodeo Drive. Stores on Rodeo Drive are not required to close during this time.
Many celebrities, locals and tourists have always shopped in the area. All restaurants are only open for outdoor dining. Many stores are empty and now for lease due to the pandemic. The police department is taking this as necessary serious precaution to prevent any more destruction in the area.
