PGA News: Will Zalatoris (injury), Kevin Na (illness) WD from Masters

Will Zalatoris was forced to withdraw from the Masters with an injury Thursday while Kevin Na began his round but pulled out after nine holes due to an illness.

The Masters did not announce the nature of Zalatoris’ injury, but he has been battling back issues.

Zalatoris was set to tee off at 1:24 p.m. ET with Matthew Fitzpatrick and Collin Morikawa.

Zalatoris, 26, was the runner-up at the 2021 Masters and tied for sixth in 2022.

Na, a member of the LIV Golf League, shot a 4-over 40 before retiring in the first round at Augusta, Ga. He carded a double-bogey 6 on the first hole.

Na, 39, went off in the first group with 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir, who finished the round as a single player. Weir, who shot even-par 72 for his round, said Na informed him at the turn that he was done.

“Right there on 10 tee,” Weir said. “But he said earlier he wasn’t feeling well. So I’m not sure what’s happening, but he told me earlier he wasn’t feeling well.”

Weir couldn’t remember the last time he played a round by himself.

“I’m sure at some point in my career I probably did, but I am struggling to find my memory bank where it was. So that was a strange back nine,” he said.

The appearance was Na’s 12th at the Masters. He had a top-15 finish in each of his past three Masters.
