International team captain Mike Weir named three fellow Canadians among his six captain’s picks for the 2024 Presidents Cup.

Weir built up his squad’s “home-field” advantage when he finalized his roster Tuesday for the Sept. 24-29 event at the Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Canada’s Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Mackenzie Hughes were selected along with South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout, South Korea’s Si Woo Kim and Australia’s Min Woo Lee.

They join the six automatic qualifiers previously announced: Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, Australia’s Adam Scott and Jason Day, and South Korea’s Tom Kim, Sungjae Im and Byeong Hun An.

This is the first time three Canadian players will compete for the International team, which is looking for its first victory over the United States since 1998.

Conners, 32, made his Presidents Cup debut in 2022.

“Corey is one of the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour and his ability to consistently put himself and his playing partner in a position to attack is invaluable in team competition,” Weir said. “He has looked towards the 2024 Presidents Cup for two years now, and I know he’s eager to compete in front of his fellow Canadians.”

Pendrith, 33, is also competing in his second straight Presidents Cup.

“Taylor is in the midst of his best year on the PGA Tour, and it was great to see him breakthrough for his first win in Dallas and advancing to the Tour Championship,” Weir said. “He has built a reputation as one of the longest hitters in our game, and that length should be advantageous in match play competition at Royal Montreal.”

Hughes, 33, is a first-time participant, along with Lee.

“Canadian golf fans have followed Mackenzie’s career for nearly two decades and it’s incredible to know he’s going to make his Presidents Cup debut in his home country,” Weir said. “He is steady and calm under pressure and is without doubt one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, which is a great combination for our team.”
