The 2026 Open Championship will be contested at Royal Birkdale, the Royal and Ancient (R&A) announced Tuesday.
Royal Birkdale will host the tournament for the 11th time. The last time the event was contested at the Southport, England, course was the 2017 Open Championship, which was won by Jordan Spieth.
“Royal Birkdale is a world class championship venue and its outstanding links will once again provide the world’s best men’s professional golfers with a tough but fair test of their talents and capabilities as they compete for the Claret Jug,” R&A CEO Martin Slumbers said in a statement.
“It has produced many memorable moments that are woven into the story of this historic Championship, including a dramatic final round in 2017 when Jordan Spieth won for the first time. We look forward to another special occasion in three years and it will be fascinating to see which player will emerge to join a list of renowned champion golfers to have won at Royal Birkdale.”
Royal Liverpool will host this year’s Open Championship from July 20-23, followed by Royal Troon Golf Club in 2024. The Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland will serve as the tournament’s host in 2025.
