PGA News: Keegan Bradley named U.S. Ryder Cup captain for 2025

Keegan Bradley was named the U.S. Ryder Cup captain for 2025 on Monday.

After leading candidate Tiger Woods reportedly turned down the post, the PGA of America turned to PGA Tour veteran Bradley, who will be formally introduced on Tuesday in New York.

The Telegraph and other outlets reported Monday that Woods declined the job. Woods was looking for a reduced role to the captaincy but he and the PGA of America could not reach an agreement on what that would entail, according to the Telegraph.

The biennial competition will take place from Sept. 26-28, 2025, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. Bradley succeeds Zach Johnson, who captained the Americans last fall when they lost to Team Europe in Rome.

The 38-year-old Bradley participated in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and 2014. He nearly played his way onto the team in 2023 but came up short.

“I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to captain the United States Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup,” Bradley said in a news release. “I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their trust in me as we embark on this journey to Bethpage Black.

“My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations for 2025.”

Bradley won the 2011 PGA Championship and was named the tour’s Rookie of the Year that year. He has six PGA Tour wins in his career, also including the 2018 BMW Championship during the FedEx Cup playoffs and the 2023 Travelers Championship.

“Keegan’s past Ryder Cup experience, strong relationships and unwavering passion for this event will prove invaluable as he guides the U.S. Team over the next year and a half,” PGA of America president John Lindert said in a statement. “We are confident that with Keegan at the helm, the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team will compete at Bethpage with the same confidence and determination that has defined his career.”

Luke Donald returns as the European captain after leading his team to victory in Rome in 2023.
