On Wednesday, Heather Pressdee, a nurse from Pennsylvania who was accused of causing the deaths of two patients and injuring another, was charged with homicide. Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry revealed the charges against Pressdee, including homicide, attempted murder, aggravated assault, neglect of a care-dependent person, and reckless endangerment. The incidents occurred while Pressdee was employed at Quality Life Services in Chicora. Although she claimed good intentions, authorities pointed out her unstable employment history, which involved disciplinary actions for abusive behavior towards patients and staff in various facilities since 2018, leading to her being fired or resigning.
Pressdee worked as an assistant director of nursing at Quality Life from May 23 to Nov. 28, 2022, and also temporarily took on the role of interim director of nursing while retaining her other position. Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry described the allegations as a heartless abuse of vulnerable patients by a professional nurse. The charges indicate deliberate and intentional acts committed by someone entrusted with the care of these victims. The Attorney General’s office is committed to pursuing justice for the families of the deceased victims as well as the survivors.
One of the deceased patients, J.B., passed away on Dec. 4, 2020, at a hospital due to respiratory failure and an unclear origin fever. The contributing factors to J.B.’s death included brainstem malignancy, seizure disorder, neurofibromatosis, and hypoglycemia. The other patient, J.C., who shared a room with J.B., died on Dec. 24, 2022. Both patients were hospitalized for hypoglycemia within a short period of time.

According to a nurse at Quality Life, Pressdee had made remarks suggesting J.B. would be better off dead prior to his passing. The complaint also mentioned an incident involving E.A., who shared a room with J.B. and experienced a near-fatal episode on Aug. 31, 2022. Despite having no history of seizures, E.A. was found seizing in his bed, and his blood glucose level dropped significantly.
Pressdee cooperated with investigators after being read her Miranda rights and consented to searches of her home, two vehicles, and her cell phone. She is currently held without bail at the Butler County Prison and faces charges of homicide, attempted murder, aggravated assault, neglect of a care-dependent person, and reckless endangerment, including two counts of homicide, one count of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault, three counts of neglect of a care-dependent person, and three counts of reckless endangerment.
