Sutherland has been made captain for the second consecutive time, this year. He is the first and only player so far to have got an 0 jersey. James Franklin, Nittany Lions head coach and his staff have decided that the 0 jersey would be awarded to the player who “is a tough, dependable, disciplined, physical leader, who inspires teammates with his accountability and production.”
Sutherland used to wear No.26. The coach and his team believe that he is the right man to sport the 0 jersey. Although his teammates were disappointed at not being recipients of this jersey, they understood that he was the best man for it. Franklin added, “It’s hard to argue with him.You look at the number of reps that he played on special teams last year and how he graded out. And his approach and his mentality and his demeanor have been awesome.”
