Brandon Ingram had the third triple-double of his career and led a franchise-record 3-point performance as the host New Orleans Pelicans routed the reeling Charlotte Hornets 132-112 on Wednesday night.
Ingram finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He tied his career-high with seven 3-pointers on 11 attempts and the Pelicans made a franchise-record 25 on 47 attempts (53.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
New Orleans’ CJ McCollum added 22 points, rookie Jordan Hawkins had 21, Trey Murphy III scored 18 and Zion Williamson had 13. Hawkins made 6 of 9 3-point tries, Murphy sank 5 of 12 and McCollum hit 4 of 9.
LaMelo Ball scored 29 points, Terry Rozier added 25, Miles Bridges had 19 and Nick Richards finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Hornets, who lost their sixth straight game and fell for the 17th time in 18 games.
Herbert Jones and Ingram each made a 3-pointer as the Pelicans started the third quarter with an 8-2 run that produced a 74-63 lead.
The Hornets closed with seven points before Larry Nance Jr. scored from inside and made one 3-pointer and Ingram made two 3-pointers to push the lead to 17 points before New Orleans held a 96-82 lead at the end of the period.
Hawkins made two 3-pointers and Murphy made one as the Pelicans expanded the lead to 109-90 midway through the fourth quarter and coasted.
McCollum scored the Pelicans’ first five points and totaled eight as they raced to a 22-14 lead.
The Hornets got as close as three points before New Orleans went on a 16-4 run to take a 15-point lead.
Charlotte scored the final eight points to pull within 43-36 at the end of the first quarter.
Hawkins made consecutive 3-pointers and Murphy added a 3-pointer as the Pelicans scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to open a 17-point cushion.
The Hornets pulled within six points before New Orleans doubled the margin on consecutive 3-pointers by McCollum and Murphy.
Rozier scored five points and Ball had three to help trim the Pelicans’ lead to 66-61 at halftime.
