Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled for this summer and is expected to bring a few changes, one of which includes a unique opening ceremony and the other a debut of the ceremony in IMAX theaters in the U.S. NBC Olympics, the official media house for the U.S. coverage of the Olympic Games through 2032 announced the IMAX debut.
The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics is a one-of-a-kind event as it will not take place inside a stadium. For the first time in Olympic history, Olympians will be sent down the iconic River Seine in boats that traverse the City of Light.
Olympians will float across the Seine on nearly 100 boats. The four-mile-long flotilla will pass through several iconic locations in Paris. The opening ceremony will be live on IMAX, NBC, and streaming channel Peacock on Friday, July 26.
The flotilla carrying athletes from more than 200 countries will float on the river and pass by iconic buildings, monuments, and bridges, including the Austerlitz Bridge, the Jardins des Plantes, and central Paris. It will end at the Trocadero, the location of the finale of the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics 2024.
Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, released a statement. It read, “We look forward to providing our Opening Ceremony coverage to audiences at IMAX locations across the country, sharing in this historic moment as the world regathers to witness the spectacular beginning of 16 days of athletic greatness against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”
IMAX has not as yet announced the cost of tickets. However, the company said that the Summer Olympics 2024, to be held in Paris, would be covered live in more than 150 U.S. locations. It noted that web fans would receive a “unique and immersive theater experience” and more.
