Buckingham Palace recently revealed the official emblem to be used for the celebrations that will accompany the coronation of his Majesty King Charles III on May 6. The palace stated that the emblem represents flora from the four nations in Britain. The design exemplifies the environmental campaigning by the King through decades as well as his love for nature. Sir Jony Ive, who has been a designer for Apple and had designed an iPhone in his former role with the tech giant, designed this floral emblem for the monarch, with his art collective LoveForm.

The flora in the emblem consists of the rose representing England and the thistle representing Scotland. Wales is represented by the daffodil while the shamrock represents Northern Ireland. This tribute to nature also incorporates the colors of the Union flag: red, white and blue. The center forms the shape of St. Edward’s Crown.
The St. Edward’s Crown will be used to crown King Charles’ in his official coronation service at the Westminster Abbey, in London. The emblem will be on all publications of the coronation service. The coronation emblem will also be used on communications for public events, street parties, community gatherings as well as the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

Former Chief Design Officer at Apple, Jony Ive said that the emblem design was “inspired by his Majesty King Charles’ love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world.” The former Apple designer also noted that the emblem embodies the “happy optimism of Spring” and that it also celebrated the “new Carolean era for the United Kingdom.”
King Charles III’s coronation will be less expensive and will not be as grand as the coronation of his mother late Queen Elizabeth II. The event is expected to have a shorter guest list as well as reflect his role in modern society although it will also be “rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.”
