Key Takeaways From Salesforce’s Investor Meeting

0

RBC Capital analysts provided their key takeaways from Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) investor meeting, noting they came away more positive on the company, as it is working on truly transforming the business and emphasizing profitability.
Salesforce noted “phase one” of the profitability journey is the 30% operating margin target (Q1/25) driven by the RIF and ongoing cost-cutting initiatives. Management also outlined an aspirational “phase two” path to potentially unlocking margins in-line with large-cap software peers, driven by more surgical go-to-market changes, deeper product integration, and more hiring in lower-cost areas (e.g. Hyderabad).
Management acknowledges ongoing changes could lead to some disruption and lower morale, which coupled with macro, are growth headwinds. However, beyond the near-term, the growth drivers are mostly unchanged, including (1) International, where Salesforce is much less penetrated and can improve the GTM by putting more investment into the indirect/reseller channels, (2) Industry Cloud, with now 12 out-of-the-box solutions for specific verticals, which have seen strong performance recently (Industry Cloud has better margins and gross retention).

WTA News: Jessica Pegula sails into Miami Open quarterfinals

0

Third-seeded Jessica Pegula converted seven of 10 break points while notching a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Magda Linette on Monday to reach the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

Pegula won 72 percent of her first-serve points compared to 54.5 percent for Linette to advance to play Russian Anastasia Potopova in the quarters.

“Everything was working, and then in the second set things got tough,” Pegula told the Tennis Channel. “I felt like I was going for too much at times. But I’m glad I was able to get some energy there and finish in two.”

Linette, from Poland, is a close friend of Pegula and the two often train together in nearby Boca Raton. Both players had four aces.

Pegula and the 27th-seeded Potapova played earlier this month at Indian Wells when Pegula rallied from a set down to post a three-set victory. Potapova is looking forward to another opportunity.

“I was pretty close to getting this win, but she was better that day,” Potapova said of the recent matchup. “I worked on some things since then, and I really hope it’s going to work.”

Potapova earned another chance with her 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over China’s Qinwen Zheng on Monday. Zheng, the 23rd seed, had nine aces to Potapova’s one.

Also moving on was Indian Wells champ Elena Rybakina, the No. 10 seed from Kazakhstan. Rybakina drilled 10 aces during a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Elise Mertens of Belgium to run her winning streak to 11 consecutive matches.

“I’m happy the day was two sets but it was a really tough one,” Rybakina told the Tennis Channel. “Elise played really well. It was not easy. I had so many chances.”

Rybakina next plays 25th-seeded Martina Trevisan after the Italian recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over 24th-seeded Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.

No. 15 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic engineered a strong second-set rally to post a 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over Varvara Gracheva of Russia. Gracheva held a 5-2 lead in the second set before Kvitova won four of the next five games to force a tiebreak and then Kvitova jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the breaker before sealing the win.

Also, Romania’s Sorana Cirstea moved on with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over Czech Marketa Vondrousova.

In evening action, Canada’s Bianca Andreescu was helped from the court in a wheelchair after being forced to retire from her match because of a left ankle injury. Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 18th seed, won the first set 7-6 (0) before Andreescu jumped in front 2-0 in the second set.

After getting hurt on a fall, a crying Andreescu could be heard telling the training staff, “I’ve never felt this kind of pain before.”

The last match of the night saw second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus rout 16th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2.

FactSet Shares Drop 4 percent Since Q2 Report

0

FactSet (NYSE:FDS) shares fell more than 4% since the company’s reported Q2 results, with EPS of $3.80 beating the Street estimate of $3.69. Revenue was $515.1 million, roughly in line with the Street estimate of $515.48 million.
Despite the beat, the company slightly lowered its full-year 2023 Annual Subscription Value (ASV) and revenue guidance, reflecting a potential slowdown in the banking sector (2/3 of ASV) and lengthening the sales cycle and constrained budget (1/3 of ASV).
The company expects 2023 EPS in the range of $14.50-$14.90, compared to the Street estimate of $14.89. Full-year revenue is expected in the range of $2.08-2.1 billion, compared to the Street estimate of $2.09 billion.

ATP News: Francisco Cerundolo upsets Felix Auger-Aliassime in Miami

0

Francisco Cerundolo is making himself at home again at the Miami Open.

The 25th-seeded Argentine, who reached the Miami semifinals last year, advanced to the fourth round with a 6-2, 7-5 upset of fifth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday.

Cerundolo, 24, has never been past the first round in a Grand Slam event, and he has never been past the first round of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament aside from the 2022 Miami Open.

“I’m very happy to be back again in the round of 16 here, in a Masters 1000, here in Miami,” Cerundolo said. “I’m super happy that I’m playing as well as last year, super happy with my level, and (hope) to keep going.”

Cerundolo logged more winners (12-7) and fewer unforced errors (19-16) than Auger-Aliassime, who reached the 2021 U.S. Open semifinals and was a Miami Open semifinalist in 2019.

Cerundolo also had a big edge in terms of second-serve success, winning 57 percent to Auger-Aliassime’s 29 percent.

“I served well, only one game that I made two double-faults, and I only faced (two) break points, so I’m super happy.”

Next up for Cerundolo is a fourth-round match against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, who knocked out 12th-seeded Frances Tiafoe of the United States 6-3, 6-4.

Second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece showed no rust in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin.

It was Tsistipas’ first match of the tournament after a bye and a walkover, and it was just his second match in March following a defeat the only time he stepped on the court in Indian Wells, Calif.

“I was waiting for a very long time to get out and play,” Tsitsipas said. “It has almost felt like a vacation this past week, staying in Miami. I glad I got started. It was a difficult match against an opponent who has played good tennis against good opponents in the past.”

France’s Adrian Mannarino came through in a pair of tiebreakers, downing eighth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz of Poland 7-6 (5), 7-6 (0). Russia’s Karen Khachanov, the 14th seed, cruised past the Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka 6-2, 6-4, and France’s Quentin Halys ousted the United States’ Mackenzie McDonald 7-6 (2), 6-3.

U.S. qualifier Christopher Eubanks kept his run going, beating France’s Gregoire Barrere 6-3, 7-6 (7).

What to Expect From Lululemon Athletica’s Q4 Results Tomorrow?

0

Deutsche Bank provided its outlook on Lululemon Athletica Inc. (NASDAQ:LULU) ahead of the upcoming Q4/23 earnings report tomorrow.
The analysts expect the company to beat Q4 (modeling $4.28 EPS vs. the Street estimate of $4.25), particularly on the top-line as they anticipate gross profit margin to come in at the low end of the range provided at ICR given higher than usual levels of markdowns in stores and online throughout January.
The analysts highlighted that investor sentiment generally leans positive into the print, with the expectation that the company will guide 2023 to approximately $11.50 (vs. Street’s $11.27) and in line with its long-term algorithm.
The analysts are of the view that a better than anticipated top-line will likely be somewhat offset by softer gross margin guidance, particularly in the first half of the year.

Virginia Tech tops Ohio State to reach first women’s Final Four

For the first time ever, Virginia Tech is going to the women’s Final Four.

The top-seeded Hokies got 25 points from Elizabeth Kitley and 24 points from Georgia Amoore as they defeated third-seeded Ohio State 84-74 on Monday night to win the Seattle 3 Region.

The Hokies (31-4) have won 15 straight games. They will face third-seeded LSU — the winner of the Greenville 2 Region — on Friday in Dallas.

Ohio State (28-8) was seeking its first Final Four appearance since 1993.

Kitley, the two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, shot 9 of 14 from the floor and also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Taylor Soule and Cayla King each chipped in 12 points. Amoore, who also had four rebounds, has scored at least 20 points in six straight games.

The Buckeyes were powered by 25 points from Taylor Mikesell, 19 from Jacy Sheldon and 18 from Cotie McMahon. McMahon also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Ohio State led by as much as five points early in the second quarter, but Virginia Tech then proceeded to outscore the Buckeyes 12-4 to take a 48-45 lead into halftime. Soule had nine points in the second, shooting 3-for-3 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.

Virginia Tech extended its lead to 13 points in the fourth quarter after opening the final period with a 10-5 run. Kitley had seven points during that stretch, including a three-point play.

The Buckeyes cut the deficit to six points with 44 seconds to go on a 3-pointer from Mikesell — her seventh of the game, matching a season high — but never got any closer to tying it.

Virginia Tech knocked down 24 of 28 free-throw attempts and won the rebounding battle 32-24.

With the Hokies advancing, the Final Four is completely set. Virginia Tech and LSU will be joined by No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 Iowa in Dallas.

Aliyah Boston boosts No. 1 South Carolina into Final Four

Aliyah Boston’s 22 points and 10 rebounds lifted top-seeded South Carolina past second-seeded Maryland for an 86-75 victory in the Greenville 1 Region final on Monday in Greenville, S.C.

The defending champion Gamecocks will head to their third consecutive Final Four. They also reached this point of the season in 2015 and 2017, winning the title in 2017 — all under coach Dawn Staley.

South Carolina (36-0) will take on Iowa (30-6) in a national semifinal on Friday in Dallas.

The Gamecocks battered Maryland in the lane, racking up a 48-26 rebounding margin that was the foundation for more home-state success.

Zia Cooke’s 18 points and Brea Beal’s 16 points helped the South Carolina offense.

Diamond Miller poured in 24 points for Maryland (28-7), which owned six wins against Top 10 teams this season. The Terrapins were bidding for their sixth Final Four berth, their first since 2015.

Abby Meyers had 14 points and Shyanne Sellers finished with 11 points for the Terrapins, whose 50 percent shooting from the field, including 7-for-14 success from 3-point range, was offset by South Carolina’s rebounding.

The Gamecocks, who have won 42 consecutive games overall, rolled in their first three games in the tournament by 16 or more points. This one was a test for longer, but eventually South Carolina had too much power. Boston shot 10-for-14 from the field.

Maryland scored six straight points to cut a 48-36 deficit in half in the third quarter. Raven Johnson drained a 3-pointer that sparked another surge for the Gamecocks and had the crowd in a tizzy. Two minutes later, South Carolina was up 60-45.

Earlier, the Terrapins had a run of their own, going on a 12-0 spurt for a 19-13 lead. Going to the second quarter ahead 21-15, Maryland hit a rut and scored only two points in the next five minutes.

Buoyed by a 9-0 run, South Carolina led 38-30 at halftime. The Gamecocks held a 25-13 edge in first-half rebounding, grabbing 14 offensive boards.

South Carolina has won five of seven all-time meetings between the teams, including an 81-56 victory at Maryland on Nov. 11.

Villanova star Maddy Siegrist declares for WNBA draft

Villanova star forward Maddy Siegrist announced Monday that she is declaring for the WNBA draft.

Siegrist, a first-team All-American, was eligible to play a fifth college season due to the NCAA’s COVID rule. She leads the nation in scoring at 29.2 points per game and the 1,081 points she accumulated this season is the second most by a Division I women’s player behind Washington’s Kelsey Plum (1,109 in 2016-17).

“This was not a decision I came to lightly,” Siegrist said in her announcement on Twitter. “… I also want to thank Villanova for welcoming me into the greatest community on Earth. From the first day I stepped on campus, I knew this would be my forever home.”

Siegrist led Villanova to a 30-7 record and a berth in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before the Wildcats were eliminated with a 70-65 loss to Miami.

Siegrist also averaged 9.2 rebounds this season while shooting 51 percent from the field. She is Villanova’s all-time leading scorer — male or female — with 2,896 career points.

Siegrist scored at least 20 points in all 37 of Villanova’s games this season while winning Big East Player of the Year honors for the second time.

“The statistical numbers that she recorded are going to be there forever which is so special when you see what Maddy accomplished throughout her amazing career,” Villanova coach Denise Dillon said in a press release. “With that said, when you leave your mark on people as Maddy has there is nothing greater. I think that is by far the greatest accomplishment as a student-athlete where you can be recognized as being an authentic person as opposed to just a great athlete. Maddy will continue to impact the world in whatever she does.”

Siegrist is projected to be selected in the first round of the WNBA draft.

Reports: Princeton NCAA star Ryan Langborg enters transfer portal

Princeton March Madness star Ryan Langborg has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports on Monday.

The senior guard excelled during Princeton’s stunning NCAA Tournament run as he averaged 18.7 points in three games as the 15th-seeded Tigers advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing to Creighton.

Langborg isn’t the only Princeton starter examining his options, as 6-foot-9 forward Keeshawn Kellman also has entered his name in the portal.

Both players will be on the move as graduate transfers due to the Ivy League policy of not allowing fifth-year players. Both Langborg and Kellman have played three seasons as the Ivy League didn’t play basketball in 2020-21 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Langborg scored 22 points in a second-round win over seventh-seeded Missouri and followed up with a career-best 26 in the setback against Creighton.

One school that might end up on Langborg’s radar is Final Four squad San Diego State. Langborg grew up in San Diego and received recruiting interest from the Aztecs while starring at nearby La Jolla Country Day and leading the school to the Division III state title in 2019.

Langborg averaged 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 32 games this season. He made 66 3-pointers and connected on 153 in 81 games (63 starts) with the Tigers.

Kellman averaged 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 61.4 percent from the field in 32 games this season. He averaged 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament.

Kellman has a 6.5 scoring average in 50 games (37 starts) at Princeton.

Tigers leading scorer Tosan Evbuomwan faces a similar decision. The 2021-22 Ivy League Player of the Year averaged 15.1 points, 6.3 boards and 4.9 assists in 32 games this past season and finished his final game at Princeton with 24 points, six rebounds and nine assists against Creighton.
