MLB News: Bryson Stott, Nick Castellanos fuel Phillies past Braves

Bryson Stott poked a two-run double down the left-field line with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting the visiting Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday afternoon.

Stott’s first hit of the series came against losing pitcher A.J. Minter (3-6), who gave up two runs (one earned) with four walks in one inning.

The winning pitcher was Craig Kimbrel (8-6), who pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Matt Strahm allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the 10th but picked up his second save.

The Phillies (83-69) stretched their lead for the first wild-card playoff spot to three games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Braves (97-55) have lost five of their last six games since clinching a sixth straight National League East title.

Nick Castellanos paced the Phillies with a two-run homer and a solo shot. The right fielder also threw out the potential game-winning runner at the plate in the ninth to force extra innings.

Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola pitched six innings and gave up two runs on six hits and eight strikeouts. Nola left the game with a two-run lead.

Atlanta’s Bryce Elder lasted only 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on three hits and five walks.

Philadelphia scored a run in the first inning on Alec Bohm’s RBI single and stretched its advantage to 4-0 after Castellanos hit a solo homer in the second and a two-run shot in the fourth. It’s the 13th time in his career that Castellanos has hit multiple home runs in a game and the fourth time this season.

The Braves got a run in the fourth inning on Matt Olson’s single and league-leading 131st RBI. They cut the lead to 4-2 on a double by Michael Harris II and a run-scoring single by Nicky Lopez in the fifth.

Atlanta tied the game 4-4 in the eighth on Austin Riley’s RBI single and Marcell Ozuna’s two-out double off the right-field wall.

The Braves had a chance to win it in the ninth, but pinch-runner Luke Williams was thrown out at the plate by Castellanos.

TRUCK News: Kyle Busch sells Truck Series team to Spire Motorsports

Kyle Busch sold his two-time winning NASCAR Truck Series team to Spire Motorsports on Wednesday.

Terms were not announced.

In addition to Kyle Busch Motorsports, Busch also sold the assets of Rowdy Manufacturing and the team’s 77,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville, N.C.

“When we started the Truck Series team back in 2010, I never imagined that we would be able to win 100 races with 18 different drivers and that one day I’d be racing in the Cup Series alongside so many of the drivers that I once mentored at KBM,” Busch said. “It took countless hours by so many amazing people to make KBM the winningest team in Truck Series history. I will always appreciate everyone that walked through the doors and gave their all to make this such a successful organization.

Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017) won driver championships under Busch, himself a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. Busch won 48 of the 100 truck races won by KBM drivers. He also claimed seven owners championships.

“I’m at a different point in my life now than I was back in 2010. My family has grown, my Cup Series team changed this year and our son’s racing schedule has become as demanding as my own,” Busch added. “It’ll be hard to walk away from the amazing facility that we’ve built. I’ll miss walking the shop floor talking with our employees, hosting our fan days in the lobby and spending countless hours there ensuring its success. However, I know at this point in my life and in my career that this is the correct decision.”

Spire Motorsports is now expected to expand and field three full-time trucks in 2024, Fox Sports reported. It will also expand its Cup Series stable from two teams this year to three in 2024.

NAS News: NASCAR Playoffs: Historic Talladega to factor in championship run

The iconic Talladega Superspeedway — nestled in the hill country around Birmingham, Ala. — is fast and furious, a bucket-list venue for NASCAR fans and a resume-maker for NASCAR drivers. And Sunday’s YellaWood 500 (2 p.m. ET on NBC, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) plays an important role not only in the sport’s illustrious and longstanding Talladega tradition but in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series championship run.

The 2.66-mile Talladega high banks make it the largest and fastest oval track the sport competes on. It is its own brand of competition in strategy and bravado. And inevitably after hours of dramatic back-and-forth, it’s the final handful of laps that will either secure a Playoff driver’s position in the next round or triumphantly represent a career-maker for one of the other drivers hoping to chase the championship another year.

Even among the variety of Playoff venues, Talladega is perpetually top-of-mind among the competitors.

“I don’t think you can pick a guy that is a favorite at Talladega because you never know what can happen there,” said Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney, a back-to-back Talladega (2019-20) winner and current Playoff driver.

“We had had good runs at Talladega, but you never know what can happen. I think the best thing that we have talked about for that race is to try to control it like we have in the past and get a few of our cars up there and control the front of the pack.

“Hopefully, you can maintain that. We kind of see it is difficult to go from the back to the front now at speedways, so you try not to bury yourself.”

Talladega represents an interesting phenomenon among competitors. No matter what their thoughts are on the tightly packed high-speed racing, it seems more advantageous to simply embrace the challenge.

It’s one of the few places where reality actually lives up to legend. And Talladega is legendary.

From the very beginning this track has claimed large-font headlines. Richard Brickhouse won the inaugural event in 1969 — by a full 7 seconds over Jim Vandiver — a race that featured many non-NASCAR regulars. The likes of Richard Petty, Bobby Allison and LeeRoy Yarbrough had refused to race in protest of a worrisome tire situation.

The drama and action only intensified from that dramatic start with Talladega Superspeedway earning its place as one of the most iconic race tracks in all of auto racing.

The late seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt is the all-time winningest driver with 10 victories — including the last great triumph in his career, winning this Fall race in 2000 with a legendary rally, passing 17 cars in the final five laps for the victory. And his son, fellow NASCAR Hall of Fame member and current NBC Sports broadcaster, Dale Earnhardt Jr., would nobly carry on that Talladega tradition earning five wins of his own including a record four consecutive from 2001-04.

In the past 10 years, there has been a range of drivers who specifically fare well on the high banks and those who count as surprise winners able to take advantage of the unpredictable pack racing there.

The defending race winner, Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, has two wins at Talladega in the past decade.

Current Playoff driver Brad Keselowski leads all active drivers with six Talladega trophies, earning his very first career NASCAR Cup Series win there in 2009. Seven of the current 12 Playoff competitors — Blaney, Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace and Ross Chastain — have Talladega victories.

And Busch, who earned his first Talladega win in 2008 and his second this spring — a span of 30 races — makes no bones about the competitive challenge of the big track. Playoff time or not.

“Talladega is a stress-ball of emotions,” said Busch, a three-time winner in his first season driving the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. He goes into the weekend’s race ranked last (12th) in the Playoff standings after a DNF at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron picked up his series-best sixth win of the season last weekend at Texas to secure his position in the next round of the Playoffs. Although that gives him some breathing room in this second race of the three-race round, he says he absolutely expects Sunday’s Playoff race at Talladega to have a different, unmistakable feel than the spring non-Playoff race there.

“It is [a different vibe] for sure,” said Byron, whose best Talladega finish is runner-up in the 2021 spring race.

“I think it’s even more difficult to get track position. That’s the thing I’ve noticed about Talladega in the Fall. It’s not like you can just drive up there and steal something from somebody. It’s definitely going to be tough getting to the front and I feel like we’ve personally struggled with that in the past. It’s not been our best superspeedway race in the fall.

“I think being a Playoff race, it’s important to get up to the front and control the race. It’s not like the spring where there’s a lot of different agendas and not everyone is taking it as serious.

“It’s definitely intense.”

Governor Gavin Newsom of California enacts Assembly Bill 1078, a law that prohibits the banning of schoolbooks.

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom approves legislation addressing schoolbook bans and child sex trafficking.

Assembly Bill 1078, which addresses educational materials for schools, is now in force. The Moreno Valley Democrat Assemblyman Corey Jackson introduced Assembly Bill 1078, which forbids school boards from prohibiting textbooks, library books, and other educational resources because they cover racial and LGBTQ+ issues.

“It is the responsibility of every generation to continue the fight for civil and human rights against those who seek to take them away,” Jackson said in a statement. “Today, California has met this historical imperative, and we will be ready to meet the next one.”

The bill’s provisions are consistent with current state law, which calls for instruction and educational materials to fairly represent the state’s ethnic and cultural diversity.

According to the new law, if a school board decides not to provide its pupils with enough instructional materials, the state superintendent of public instruction has the ability to buy textbooks for a school district, reclaim those expenses, and impose a levy. Because this provision would impose an additional requirement on local educational agency officials, the bill would create a state-mandated local program. The bill would require the department, no later than July 1, 2025, to develop guidance and public educational materials to ensure that all Californians can access information about educational laws and policies that safeguard the right to an accurate and inclusive curriculum.

Existing law requires a school district to use its uniform complaint process to help identify and resolve any deficiencies related to, among other things, instructional materials, and to report summarized data on unresolved complaints to the county superintendent of schools. Existing law requires a complaint under these provisions to be filed with the principal of the school or the principal’s designee. Existing law requires the principal or the designee of the district superintendent to make all reasonable efforts to investigate any problem within their authority and to remedy a valid complaint within a reasonable time period, as specified. Existing law authorizes the complainant to appeal to the Superintendent of Public Instruction and requires the Superintendent to provide a written report to the state board describing the basis for the complaint and, as appropriate, a proposed remedy.

This bill would authorize a complaint that more than one pupil does not have sufficient textbooks or instructional materials, as a result of an act or omission by the governing board of a school district, to be filed directly with the Superintendent. The bill would authorize the Superintendent to directly intervene without waiting for the principal or the designee of the district superintendent to investigate.

Existing law requires the governing board of each local educational agency to either provide for an audit of its books and accounts or make arrangements with the county superintendent to provide for that audit. Existing law requires the auditor’s report to include, among other things, a summary of audit exceptions and requires each county superintendent to review audit exceptions related to, among other things, inventory of equipment and the use of instructional materials program funds.

Watch: Brazen Youth Gangs Smash and Grab, Vandalize and Steal from Stores in Philadelphia

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Philadelphia routinely has higher crime rates than the national average, particularly for violent crimes. Its poverty rate is the highest among the Top 10 American cities with a population of more than 1 million, and its violent crime rate is the highest.

Just after 8 o’clock in the evening, the first reports of break-ins in the vicinity of Rittenhouse Square started to surface. At that time, demonstrators had just left a peaceful rally at City Hall where they had demanded justice for Eddie Irizarry, who had been shot and killed by a Philadelphia Police officer the previous month. A judge earlier on Tuesday rejected all charges against the cop who murdered him, prompting a storm of protest in the neighborhood.

Tuesday night, multiple establishments across Philadelphia were broken into by sizable gangs of youth who stole goods and damaged property, according to acting police commissioner John Stanford.

By midnight, according to Stanford, police had detained over 20 persons, some of whom were minors, and at least two firearms had been found. Center City, the Northeast, and West Philadelphia were all affected by the unrest, and business districts along Aramingo Avenue and Walnut Street were targeted throughout the night.

Police reported that there had been dozens of arrests as of Wednesday morning. Following the overnight burglaries at 18 of its sites, Fine Wine & Good Spirits announced that all of its stores will be closed until further notice.

The silent killer ovarian cancer is being early detected by Nevia Bio utilizing AI .

Co-founder and CEO of Nevia Bio Dr. Inbal Zafir-Lavie was on a mission after her sister was diagnosed and died from ovarian cancer.

In 2020, Yehudai-Reshef, a researcher and the Director of the Clinical Research Institute at Rambam Hospital, teamed up with Zafir-Lavie, a scientist with a background in pharmatech whose concentration was on cancer research. Together, they founded Nevia Bio. They can examine vaginal fluids for the early identification of ovarian cancer using a machine learning model. This is the closest they can get to the ovaries without performing a painful or invasive surgical operation, according to Zafir-Lavie.

The 2015-founded company, originally names Ginalife focuses on leveraging AI and data science to identify diseases in women while they are developing. They are creating a platform that uses a smart “pad” to diagnose diseases based on vaginal discharge and offers early diagnosis for a range of medical conditions, including endometriosis, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. Gina Life triumphed over more than 400 competitors to win the prestigious Boston Mass Challenge startup accelerator program.

Current technologies rely on blood tests, which, according to Dr. Zafir-Lavie, diagnose the disease far too late, and there are no effective early detection diagnostics for ovarian cancer that have been authorized by regulatory bodies. Only at stages three and four of the disease may ovarian cancer be found in the blood. From treatable stage two to lethal stage three, it can take a woman up to six months. Blood tests and ultrasounds won’t be able to find the cancer before that time, therefore the woman will be sent home by the medical staff. She will be in stage three in six months, at which point it will be too late. “The vision is to have a home-use test like a COVID test that can be used to indicate several diseases in women’s health,” says Zafir-Lavie.

In addition to medical imaging, Nevia Bio also focuses on genomic analysis. They have developed a proprietary genomic testing platform that looks for specific genetic markers associated with ovarian cancer. This genetic approach allows for the detection of ovarian cancer at a molecular level, potentially enabling diagnosis before the disease becomes visible in medical imaging.

According to Zafir-Lavie, their objective is to have healthcare practitioners utilize this test and incorporate routine screenings, but eventually they would like women to use it as well.

In a recent announcement, Kia and Hyundai have recalled over 3.3 million vehicles globally due to potential fire-related issues. While these two South Korean automakers have been praised for their advancements in safety and technology, this massive recall underscores the importance of proactive safety measures in the industry.

1.73 million Borrego, Cadenza, Forte, Sportage, K900, Optima, Soul Rio, Sorento, and Rondo vehicles are included in Kia America’s recall. According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall applies to multiple model years for each vehicle from 2010 through 2017.

According to the automaker, brake fluid leaks may cause an electrical shortage in the vehicles’ Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), which could cause an engine compartment fire when the car is in motion or stopped.

Due to a potential electrical short with the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) that might result in an engine fire when the car is in motion or parked, Kia is recalling 1,730,192 vehicles.

Hyundai made a recall announcement for 1,642,551 vehicles due to a potential fire problem.

Federal authorities claim that the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may internally leak brake fluid and cause an electrical short, both of which might result in an engine compartment fire when the car is in motion or parked.

Democrats ask NJ Senator GOLD BAR Robert Menendez to resign after corruption charges, but he remains defiant

The number of Democrats who have asked Senator Robert Menendez to resign is slowly growing. However, Bob Menendez the senator from New Jersey remains defiant and addressed the charges against him in Jersey. He spoke of his exoneration in future and said that he would remain as a senior senator in the Garden State. Huge amounts of gifts including gold bars, $550,000 in cash and a Mercedes Benz were found at his house during a June 2022 search at his home in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. He was indicted on three counts on Friday.

Senator Robert Menendez stood alone at a lectern in Hudson County and addressed the allegations against him. He remained defiant and said that he would not resign. He said that the prosecutors framed the charged to be “as salacious as possible.”

Federal investigators allege Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., received bribes in the form of gold bars.

He described it as the “biggest fight yet” but expressed confidence that he would be exonerated after the judicial process would be concluded and said that he would remain as the senior senator of New Jersey.

The 69-year-old senator spoke in English followed by Spanish. He did not answer questions thrown at him by TV crews and journalists. He explained the large amount of cash that was stuffed in envelopes and found in his residence as a habit that was a result of the experiences his parents faced in Cuba. He said that it became a habit for him to withdraw cash from his savings accounts and to keep that cash at home.

Federal investigators allege they found money stuffed in Menendez’s jackets when they executed a search warrant in June 2022. Southern District of New York

Senator Bob Menendez remained silent about the amount of gold bars that were also found in his home. He did not mention about the luxury vehicle—a Mercedes Benz but only mentioned about the cash found in his home. His wife Nadine Arslanian Menendez did not appear by his side at the news conference.

Senator Bob Menendez, his wife Nadine Menendez and three businessmen from New Jersey are scheduled to appear at a Manhattan federal court on Wednesday to respond to the criminal charges brought against them.

Jose Uribe and Wael Hana bought a Mercedes-Benz for Sen. Bob Menendez’s wife in return for the Senator interfering in a state criminal prosecution of a Uribe associate. USDC Southern District of New York

New Jersey governor Philip D. Murphy and others had called for his resignation after the announcement of the charges. Close friend and fellow senator Cory Booker asked him to resign late Tuesday. It has been reported that 17 senators have asked him to step down, to date.

ChatGPT AI Technology Introduces Talk and Listen

0

Image by Franz Bachinger from Pixabay

One remarkable advancement in this field of AI is the ability of AI models like ChatGPT to not only ‘talk’ but also ‘listen.’ This transformative capability marks a significant milestone in natural language processing (NLP) technology, enabling more dynamic and engaging interactions between humans and machines. In this article, we will delve into the mechanisms behind ChatGPT’s ‘talking’ and ‘listening’ abilities and explore the implications of this technology.

The power of ChatGPT to produce text responses that sound like human speech in natural language is known as its “talking” capability. The Transformer deep neural network architecture, trained on big data sets including a wide range of text from the internet, is used to accomplish this feat. During training, the model picks up on grammar, context, and even linguistic quirks, enabling it to provide responses that are both coherent and contextually appropriate.

ChatGPT can understand and interpret spoken language. It is able to respond in a way that is meaningful to the conversation since it comprehends not just the words but also the context, tone, and subtleties of a dialogue.

ChatGPT uses its in-depth linguistic expertise to create grammatically accurate and appropriately contextualized text responses. ChatGPT’s ‘talking’ ability is its capacity for personalization. It can tailor its responses based on the user’s input, creating a more engaging and relevant conversation.

The ability of ChatGPT to ‘talk’ and ‘listen’ has profound implications across various domains:

Customer Support: Businesses can use ChatGPT to provide automated, efficient, and context-aware customer support, improving user satisfaction and response times.

Education: ChatGPT can act as a personalized tutor, adapting its explanations and responses to the learner’s level of understanding and progress.

Organic Greek Vitamin Bottles and Multivitamin Gummies

Content Creation: Writers, journalists, and content creators can leverage ChatGPT for generating ideas, drafting articles, or even composing creative pieces.

Language Translation: ChatGPT’s language understanding capabilities make it a valuable tool for translation services, offering more contextually accurate translations.

Accessibility: ChatGPT can assist individuals with disabilities by providing natural language interactions, aiding in tasks like reading text aloud or answering questions.

Research: Researchers can use ChatGPT as a conversational partner to explore and discuss complex topics, aiding in the generation of ideas and hypotheses.

An important step forward in AI-driven natural language processing is represented by ChatGPT’s capacity to “talk” and “listen.” Different industries could be completely changed by this technology, which could also change how people interact with machines.
