Eli Lilly partnered with biotech company AbCellera Biologics Inc. The drug is used for patients with mild to moderate diagnosis is of COVID-19.

“Lilly is creating and testing neutralizing antibodies that target the viral spike protein that SARS-CoV-2 uses to gain entry into host cells. These treatments are specifically designed to treat COVID-19 and require specialized people — such as scientists and engineers — and nearly 300,000 square feet of manufacturing space, 40 miles of piping, 50 processing vessels, and several controlled environments such as cleanrooms to manufacture.

It can take up to 90 days to manufacture a single batch of the active pharmaceutical ingredient and drug product for a neutralizing antibody for COVID-19. This is due to the highly complex manufacturing processes, with carefully controlled conditions and numerous quality and safety checks.” Source: Eli Lilly

CDC Update: How COVID-19 Spreads Oct 6th 2020

How COVID-19 Spreads

Updated Oct. 6th, 2020

COVID-19 spreads very easily from person to person

How easily a virus spreads from person to person can vary. The virus that causes COVID-19 appears to spread more efficiently than influenza but not as efficiently as measles, which is among the most contagious viruses known to affect people.

COVID-19 most commonly spreads during close contact

  • People who are physically near (within 6 feet) a person with COVID-19 or have direct contact with that person are at greatest risk of infection.
  • When people with COVID-19 cough, sneeze, sing, talk, or breathe they produce  respiratory droplets. These droplets can range in size from larger droplets (some of which are visible) to smaller droplets. Small droplets can also form particles when they dry very quickly in the airstream.
  • Infections occur mainly through exposure to respiratory droplets when a person is in close contact with someone who has COVID-19.
  • Respiratory droplets cause infection when they are inhaled or deposited on mucous membranes, such as those that line the inside of the nose and mouth.
  • As the respiratory droplets travel further from the person with COVID-19, the concentration of these droplets decreases. Larger droplets fall out of the air due to gravity. Smaller droplets and particles spread apart in the air.
  • With passing time, the amount of infectious virus in respiratory droplets also decreases.

COVID-19 can sometimes be spread by airborne transmission

  • Some infections can be spread by exposure to virus in small droplets and particles that can linger in the air for minutes to hours. These viruses may be able to infect people who are further than 6 feet away from the person who is infected or after that person has left the space.
  • This kind of spread is referred to as  airborne transmission  and is an important way that infections like tuberculosis, measles, and chicken pox are spread.
  • There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than 6 feet away. These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation. Sometimes the infected person was breathing heavily, for example while singing or exercising.
    • Under these circumstances, scientists believe that the amount of infectious smaller droplet and particles produced by the people with COVID-19 became concentrated enough to spread the virus to other people. The people who were infected were in the same space during the same time or shortly after the person with COVID-19 had left.
  • Available data indicate that it is much more common for the virus that causes COVID-19 to spread through close contact with a person who has COVID-19 than through airborne transmission.  [1]

COVID-19 spreads less commonly through contact with contaminated surfaces

  • Respiratory droplets can also land on surfaces and objects. It is possible that a person could get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes.
  • Spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be a common way that COVID-19 spreads

COVID-19 rarely spreads between people and animals

  • It appears that the virus that causes COVID-19 can spread  from people to animals  in some situations. CDC is aware of a small number of pets worldwide, including cats and dogs, reported to be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, mostly after close contact with people with COVID-19. Learn what you should do  if you have pets.
  • At this time, the risk of COVID-19 spreading  from animals to people  is considered to be low. Learn about  COVID-19 and pets and other animals.

Protect yourself and others

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.  You can take steps to slow the spread.

Pandemics can be stressful, especially when you are staying away from others. During this time, it’s important to  maintain social connections and care for your mental health.

Learn more about what you can do to  protect yourself and others.

1Pathogens that are spread easily through airborne transmission require the use of special engineering controls to prevent infections. Control practices, including recommendations for patient placement and personal protective equipment for health care personnel in healthcare settings, can be found in Section 2 of  Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Top Tech Leaders in Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence and machine learning hold the post promise in the upcoming technological revolutions, due to which investment in these areas has seen exponential growth. Each sector is investing in AI (Artificial intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) to stay ahead of its rivals and to provide better customer services with automated processes and techniques.

Here’s how the tech giants are investing in AI and ML to provide enhanced products and services to their customers:

  1. Nvidia

The chipmaker has invested heavily into AI to pursue its aim to power the technology in the future. AI requires more comprehensive computational power, and so Nvidia is putting it all in new chip designs that are imperative for AI to work smoothly. It is already the leading investor in robotics, automotive, healthcare and construction.

  1. Google

AI and ML play a pivotal role in Google’s strategy for growth who’s looking to change the perspective from ‘mobile-first’ to AI-first’ all over the world. Google bought an AI startup in 2014 for a whopping $400million, and that startup has been used to defeat champion game players of ‘Go” and to improve healthcare. It has also made it ML system ‘TensorFlow’ free for all and launched a new project in 2017 to study how people interact with AI systems.

  1. Intel

Intel has made a significant investment in 14 startups that amount to a total of $117 million, all of which are establishing AI platforms. They are focused on developing a hardware solution that will deliver what the customer needs in an AI-empowered world.

  1. Amazon

Amazon incorporates AI in some form, whether it’s their robots in the warehouse or their recommendation engine. The intelligent voice assistant Alexa uses neural networks to process language and respond appropriately. It has also launched an AI-powered shop in Seattle called Amazon Go. Amazon has invested in ML and brought it to AWS (Amazon Web Services) where customers can use it to build conversational interfaces, comprehend insights and relationships in text or build, train and deploy machine learning models at scale.

These don’t even scratch the surface when talking about the investments being made in AI and ML by the technological big-leagues. The future holds for stocks making investments in this technology.

Nikola’s stock faces class action lawsuit.

Glancy Prongay & Murray LLP (“GPM”) reminds investors of the upcoming November 16, 2020 deadline to file a lead plaintiff motion in the class action filed on behalf of investors who purchased or otherwise acquired Nikola Corporation (“Nikola” or “the Company”) (NASDAQ: NKLA) securities between March 3, 2020 and September 20, 2020, inclusive (the “Class Period”). Source: PRnewswire

“On September 10, 2020, Hindenburg Research published a report entitled “Nikola: How to Parlay an Ocean of Lies into a Partnership with the Largest Auto OEM in America.” Therein, Hindenburg alleged that the Company’s founder, Trevor Milton (“Milton”), had misled partners into signing agreements by falsely claiming to have extensive proprietary technology. Among other things, the report claimed that Milton had staged a video of Nikola’s semi-truck cruising down a road by filming the truck rolling down a hill and that, despite claiming Nikola designs all key components in house, the Company appears to simply be buying or licensing them from third-parties.

On this news, the Company’s share price fell $10.24, or 24%, over two consecutive trading sessions to close at $32.13 per share on September 11, 2020, thereby injuring investors.

On September 14, 2020, after the market closed, Bloomberg reported that the SEC was “examining” Nikola over the Hindenburg report’s allegations.

On September 15, 2020, before the market opened, Hindenburg published another report focusing on Nikola’s response, entitled “We View Nikola’s Response As a Tacit Admission of Securities Fraud[.]” Source:   Glancy Law
