Aya Hegazi has returned to the United States only a few days after an Egyptian court acquitted her and others of charges related to the abuse and exploitation of children, following three years of detention.
Aya Hijazi, 30, her husband Mohamed Hassanein, and four other humanitarian workers were flown out of Egypt on a U.S. government aircraft after a court in Cairo dropped all charges against them.
In 2014, Hijazi, who grew up in Virginia, was working in Cairo at a rehabilitation center for street children that she and her husband established when they were arrested on child abuse charges. No evidence was ever presented against them, and human rights organizations decried the charges as false.

US authorities have prepared charges to seek the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, US officials familiar with the matter tell CNN.
Last week in a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, CIA Director Mike Pompeo went further than any US government official in describing a role by WikiLeaks that went beyond First Amendment activity.
He said WikiLeaks “directed Chelsea Manning to intercept specific secret information, and it overwhelmingly focuses on the United States.”
“It’s time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is: A non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia,” Pompeo said.

Today Arkansas death row inmates scheduled to die by lethal injection this month in Arkansas have and they are asking the Supreme Court to reverse a federal appeals court order to stop the executions.
Arkansas Supreme Court ruling blocks inmate’s execution
Earlier on Wednesday, the Arkansas Supreme Court granted a stay of execution for death row inmate Stacey Johnson, a day before he was scheduled to die.
Johnson’s lawyers argued that new DNA evidence would exonerate him, and if the execution wasn’t stopped the state would put an innocent man to death.
“It’s just common sense that before the government sends a man to his death, we should use the best scientific methods to make sure we have convicted the right person,” said Innocence Project attorney Karen Thompson, who is working with Little Rock attorney Jeff Rosenzweig on Johnson’s case.
