Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has a market cap of 363.56B. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has also paid out a $0.54 dividend per share on 2/18/2020.

Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT)’s CEO Doug McMillon has been with Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) since 2014. He is considered the genius who took Walmart to the next level of e-commerce operations and soon in direct competition with Amazon. From 2009 to 2014 he was president and CEO of Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) International. From 2005 to 2009 he served as president and CEO of Sam’s Club. He is an excellent example how working hard and being loyal pays off in order to be successful. He is an excellent role model for other employees who desire to rise up within the ranks of the company.

With the onset of the current health pandemic of COVID-19 online shopping has become a lifeline for consumers. While the current state of the economy and people out of work, consumers are looking for rock bottom pricing for products that can be shipped to their homes.

Besides Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) in the U.S., Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) operates internationally. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) also owns Sam’s Club that is a competitor to Costco. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT)’s lower valuation and higher dividend make it a safer stock in an unstable market.

Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) trades at 23 times forward earnings and pays a forward dividend yield of 1.9%. Dividends have increased annually for 45 straight years. Costco has a higher forward P/E of 38 but pays a lower forward yield of 0.9%. with an increased dividend annually for 16 straight years. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT)’s price-to-earnings ratio is only 15.69% versus Costco’s 29.87%.

Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) is a behemoth operating not only as a grocery store and also as a pharmacy. There is not a consumer staple product that Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) does not sell. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) also offers financial services such as check cashing, wire transfers, and bill payments.

It’s pretty evident that the stock market and economy will be on edge for many months to come due to COVID-19. Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has been hiring many workers due to increased demand due to the pandemic. The stock has shown resiliency during this time. Walmart has plenty of cash from operations to manage their near-term interest expenses.

NYSE: WMT      CWEB Analysts view the stock as a long term growth and a great addition to your investment portfolio with an upward momentum of $1000 by 2021 with direct competition to Amazon.

Miami, We Have a Problem-Marlins’ Positive COVID-19 Outbreak Climbs to 17

0

It’s been less than one week since the MLB season got underway, and we’re already seeing a wave of positive COVID-19 cases sweep through the Miami Marlins’ clubhouse. Yesterday, it was reported by MLB & the Marlins front-office that 7 more players & 2 coaches had tested positive.

Over the weekend there was a report that 4 players had tested positive for COVID-19 as well, but the team decided to continue to play after a team vote. A team vote doesn’t necessarily mean they can elect to forgo playing because MLB & Commissioner Rob Manfred have the final say in the matter. Today we learned that 4 more players tested positive bringing the total to 15 infected players.

According to HIPPA laws, neither MLB nor the baseball franchises need to report which players test positive unless the players themselves agree to provide details. Regardless, it’s been pretty obvious to speculate which players tested positive because when a team decides to make corresponding roster changes and place players on their Injured List, they need to specify the reason – for example: nature of injury, paternity leave, personal reasons. However, players who have chosen not to go public, are still placed on the MLB 10-day injured list, without a reason, which leads to speculation and the assumption  the matter is due to the coronavirus.

What we know now is 15 Marlins players & 2 coaches tested positive for COVID-19 based on daily testing conducted by Major League Baseball and the Commissioner’s Office. The players we know about are (1B)Garrett Cooper, (SS)Miguel Rojas, (OF)Harold Ramirez and

(SP)Jose Urena. The names of the 13 other players have yet to be released. It’s also not clear if (C)Jorge Alfaro, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, is the 18th member of the Marlins to test positive.

Major League Baseball has decided to temporarily pause the season of the Miami Marlins as the team deals with a Coronavirus outbreak that has now impacted 17 or 18 of the club’s players and coaches, Today, MLB officially announced that they are postponing Marlins games through Sunday as the players continue to quarantine in their hotel in Philadelphia. It doesn’t make sense to rush them back on the field, as it’s unsafe and unfair to expect them to field a major league-caliber team under these conditions. It sounds like MLB does intend to make up those lost games, though it’s possible playoff spots will be determined by winning percentage in the end.

However, the way things are going right now, there might not even be playoffs and a post season but as of now, MLB has no plans to cancel the season or any games other than yesterday & today’s contests between the New York Yankees vs the Phillies in Philadelphia. “I don’t see it as a nightmare,” Commissioner Manfred told MLB Network on Monday night. “We built the protocols to allow us to continue to play. That’s why we have the    expanded rosters, that’s why we have the additional players. And, we think we can keep people safe and continue to play.” Oh really, Mr. Manfred? You’re trying to “keep people safe” or are you more concerned about DOLLARS than the sense of health & safety of the athletes, their team’s personnel, hotel staffs, transportation services, and anyone coming into contact with the game of baseball? I know this is not Korea, but when they started their professional baseball season last month they had a strict rule that if one single player tested posted for the Coronavirus  they would shut down the entire league for 14-days; which they did, and when they resumed play, there were no more cases because they stopped the  spread. You know why MLB won’t do that? It’ll cost them too much money, I suppose.

I love baseball and I hope I am wrong, but I did not have a good feeling about how MLB moved forward how they did. They spent all those weeks haggling with the players union over salaries, yet they never addressed the major important safety protocols containing a bubble. There is “no bubble” and  too many states & cities are involved & exposed. Did MLB think COVID-19 wouldn’t infect & impact their players? If I were the Commissioner of MLB,  I would’ve had 2 or maybe even 3 bubbles in selected regions & areas  similar to what the NBA & NHL is trying to do by keeping everyone within  the same place. The NBA is in Orlando Florida and the NHL is in Toronto Canada. The MLB? They are everywhere across the entire United  States, which could be  a bunch of BIG BUBBLES waiting to BURST!

Let’s just hope all the Miami Marlins players & families persevere and this situation doesn’t get more severe.

Justin Verlander Goes Down with Forearm Strain and 11 Miami Marlins Test Positive For COIVD-19

The first weekend of the Major League Baseball season started in a flurry with an injury of a future Hall of Famer and ended with 11 players and 2 coaches testing positive for COVID-19 from the Miami Marlins.

It was first reported that Justin Verlander was to be “shut down” for the remainder of the season with an apparent elbow injury but the assessment was considered premature when Verlander & the Houston Astros later claimed it’s a “forearm strain” that will sideline him for a “couple of weeks.”

Whether it’s an elbow or forearm strain, it doesn’t sound good for the 37-year old 2011 & 2109 Cy Young Award winner because these types of injuries can linger and eventually lead to Tommy John surgery, and since the 2020 season just began, it’s going to take time for Verlander to regain his arm strength if & when he’s able to return to game action.

The 8-time All Star, went into the season having thrown more innings than any active pitcher in baseball, 3,175â…” across the regular season and playoffs in his career, wasn’t expected to start the season back in March after undergoing groin surgery and having muscle soreness in his shoulder. Yet, with the season delayed four months, he was able to start opening day  and looked like the Verlander of old. He gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings, striking out 7 in the Astros’ 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

This is a major blow to the Houston Astros since they lost another one of their Ace Starting Pitchers, free agent Garrit Cole  in the off-season to the New York Yankees and made him the highest-paid pitcher in the history of baseball with a 9-year contract worth $324 million. The Astros now will be leaning heavily on Lance McCullers who’s coming back from Tommy John surgery and Zack Greinke, along with young pitchers Josh James, Framber Valdez, Jose Urquidy, Forrest Whitley, and Bryan Abreu.

For those who don’t follow baseball, Justin Verlander is known in the celebrity world as married to American model and actress, Kate Upton’s husband.

In other news, Major League Baseball is already dealing with an outbreak after just a few days of the regular season. 11 out of the 33 players traveling with the Marlins’ party have tested positive for COVID-19. According to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. There’s no plans to cancel or suspend the season as a result of the Marlins’ COVID-19 outbreak. MLB owners completed their weekly call earlier today and cancellation wasn’t on the table. Manfred would have the final say regarding the viability of the season.

The Marlins’ situation is bad for a variety of reasons, but MLB is going to do their best to manage it for now. If the outbreak moves into another clubhouse, it’s hard to see how this continues. In the meantime, the Marlins team is still in Philadelphia and are waiting on more test results. Their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles in Miami has been cancelled for today, and don’t be surprised if tomorrow’s contest is cancelled too.

In addition, today’s game with the New York Yankees scheduled to be played at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies has been postponed and it’s very  possible Tuesday’s game could be impacted too. There should be more clarity within the next 24 hours.

How Groupon Will Revolutionize And Help The Retail Industry Post Covid -19

Dunkin’ Brands Group DNKN- stock was rising on Monday. The doughnut chain announced it is hiring 25,000 workers and KeyBanc Capital Markets upgraded the stock, with a $78 price target.

As the economy slowly recovers, people will still need to be cautious about their money. Groupon will  revolutionize  the Coupon industry.    Coupons work much the same way, except the payoff is in smaller increments. Companies allocate so many dollars a year to attract customers to their products, businesses or services.

What are the benefits of using coupons?

For Consumers

  • Buy More Items. Wise consumers can save a good amount of money when using coupons to buy their necessities
  • Avail dream products
  • Save money
  • Suggest when to buy
  • Retains old and attract new consumers
  • Helps off-load older products
  • Reduce advertising expenses
  • Help identify potential customers.

Using coupons brings joy. This isn’t our own hyperbole talking, but rather, science: A  Claremont University study  discovered that receiving and using coupons decreased stress and increased a person’s oxytocin levels–which are associated with happiness–by 38 percent (which is a larger increase than kissing!).

Yesterday  Dunkin‘ franchise announced that they will be adding  25,000 jobs  as restaurants start to re-open in the U.S. The breakfast and coffee chain announced Monday that its franchisees are looking to fill a range of positions, including management roles.  Dunkin‘ launched an ad campaign on Monday to support recruiting efforts.

Dunkin’ Donuts plans to hire 25,000 employees as states reopen

People return to work they will be visiting Duncan donuts more often. More than half of Dunkin Donut stores are located in the Northeast, a heavily Den market. While these areas of the country have been extremely hard hit with the Coronavirus, we believe there will be a big rebound once the economy’s strikes back up again. Dunkin Donuts has proven itself against other fast-food change that offer breakfast such as McDonald’s (MCD) .

As the economy slowly recovers, people will still need to be cautious about their money. People will benefit more from getting a daily deal on Groupon for $6 for a $10 Dunkin’ Card for Donuts, Coffee, and Breakfast Fare at Dunkin’ Donuts- one of the offers they had on Groupon, Inc. (GRPN) Nasdaq. We see both stocks rising all the way the end of the year and beyond: Strong Buy

Major League Baseball is Back with New 2020 Rule Changes You Should Know

0

In case you haven’t noticed, Baseball is back! Lost in the shuffle of an incredibly busy hectic off-season were a few rule changes that could alter and impact the fabric of our great game, and MLB Managers & GM will need to use more strategy with their game plans & rosters. When Major League Baseball and its players’ union announced last month that a shortened 2020 60-game regular season would be held, significant rule changes were included. Some of the new rules were previously agreed upon prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other rules were recently implemented for safety concerns and to avoid player injuries due to the extra time off, and less time given to get back into game-shape.

On-Field Rules:

  • National League games will include the use of the designated hitter for the first time in history.
  • An extra-innings rule will begin each extra inning with a runner on second base. The batter (or a substitute for the batter) who leads off an inning shall continue to be the batter who would lead off the inning in the absence of this extra-innings rule.
  • The runner placed on second base at the start of each half-inning shall be the player (or a substitute for such player) in the batting order immediately preceding that half-inning’s lead-off hitter. By way of example, if the number five hitter in the batting order is due to lead off the tenth inning, the number four player in the batting order (or a pinch-runner for such player) shall begin the inning on second base. However, if the player in the batting order immediately preceding that half-inning’s lead-off hitter is the pitcher, the runner placed on second base at the start of that half-inning may be the player preceding the pitcher in the batting order. Any runner or batter removed from the game for a substitute shall be ineligible to return to the game, as is the case in all circumstances under the OBR.
  • For purposes of calculating earned runs, the runner who begins an inning on second base pursuant to this rule shall be deemed to be a runner who has reached second base because of a fielding error, but no error shall be charged to the opposing team or to any player.
  • As previously announced, the new three-batter minimum rule will require the starting or any relief pitcher to pitch to a minimum of three batters, including the batter then at bat (or any substitute batter), until such batters are put out or reach base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness.
  • Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in OBR 4.03(c) or MLR 2(b)(2), any player may appear as a pitcher at any point during the game (i.e., no extra-inning requirements or six-run rule, as were once planned for 2020). However, all players eligible to participate in the game regardless of position must be included on that game’s lineup card.
  • Prohibitions against unsportsmanlike conduct will be strictly enforced to prevent unnecessary physical contact and support physical distancing between individuals on the playing field. In this respect, players and managers should maintain physical distancing from all umpires and opposing players on the playing field whenever possible. Players or managers who leave their positions to argue with umpires, come within six feet of an umpire or opposing player or manager for the purpose of argument, or engage in altercations on the field are subject to immediate ejection and discipline, including fines and suspensions.

Procedures for Health and Safety:

  • Each Club must submit a written COVID-19 Action Plan for approval by MLB.
  • Spitting is prohibited (including but not limited to, saliva, sunflower seeds or peanut shells, or tobacco) at all times in Club facilities (including on the field). Chewing gum is permitted.
  • Pitchers may carry a small wet rag in their back pocket to be used for moisture in lieu of licking their fingers.
  • Clubs must provide expanded dugout and bullpen space at their ballparks.
  • Players, umpires, and other on-field personnel should practice physical distancing to the extent possible within the limitations of competition and the fundamentals of baseball. Examples of ways in which physical distancing can be incorporated without disrupting the basics of the game include:
  • When the ball is out of play, fielders are encouraged to retreat several steps away from the baserunner.
  • If the batter is in the batter’s box and the catcher needs to stand to relay signs to the infielders, the catcher can step onto the grass towards the mound to give the signs before assuming his position behind home plate.
  • First and Third Base Coaches should remain in or behind the Coach’s Box and shall not approach a baserunner, fielder, or umpire on-field.
  • Players on opposite teams should not socialize, fraternize, or come within six feet of each other before the game, during warm-ups, in between innings, or after the game.
  • There will be no pregame exchange of lineup cards. Instead, each Club will input their lineup card into a mobile application provided by MLB.

Scheduling

  • Clubs may schedule up to three exhibition games before the end of Summer Camp. Clubs may consider scheduling games against their opening opponent in the days leading up to Opening Day. There is no limit on the number of intrasquad games permitted.
  • A regionally based schedule will feature each Club playing 40 divisional games and 20 Inter-league games against the corresponding geographical division.  Revised Procedures for Transactions
  • All player transactions that had been suspended resumed this past Friday.
  • Yesterday, each Club submitted a list of up to 60 players who will be eligible to participate in Major League games during the 2020 championship season (“Club Player Pool”).
  • Roster rules include:
  • By noon ET on the first date of the revised 2020 regular season, each Club must submit to MLB an Opening Day Active Roster with a maximum of 30 players, and a minimum of 25.
  • The maximum Active Roster limit shall be reduced from 30 to 28 on the 15th day of the regular season.
  • The maximum Active Roster limit shall be reduced from 28 to 26 on the 29th day of the championship season for the remainder of the championship season and postseason. There shall be no expanded rosters in September.
  • The limitations on the number of pitchers on the Active Roster otherwise required by MLR 2(b)(2) shall not apply.
  • In the event that a doubleheader takes place while the Active Roster limit is 26, both Clubs may use an additional player.
  • A Club is permitted to carry up to three additional Taxi Squad players from its Club Player Pool on all road trips with the Major League team. If the Club elects to carry three additional players, at least one must be a player whose designated position prior to the season is catcher. Players on the Taxi Squad are permitted to workout with the Major League Club but are not permitted to be in uniform and in the dugout during games. Upon the conclusion of each road trip, players on the Taxi Squad will return to the Alternate Training Site.
  • Aug. 31 will be the 2020 Trade Deadline and Sept. 15 will be the 2020 Postseason eligibility deadline.
  • Standard Injured List placements will be for either 10 days or 45 days, with the latter replacing 60. A COVID-19 Related Injured List will allow for placements that will not require a confirmed positive test for COVID-19. A player may be placed on the COVID-19 Related IL based on a positive test for COVID-19, confirmed exposure to COVID-19, or if a player exhibits symptoms requiring self-isolation for further assessment.

These new rule changes won’t affect the players as much as the Managers and GM’s.  However, the players will   miss the fans cheering in the stadiums and the rules changes will be a matter of adjusting. How will this affect the fans?   We’ll just have to wait and see.

Mike Trout Los Angeles Angels Superstar Declares “I’m Playing” Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

0

“I’m playing,” the Los Angeles outfielder said on Wednesday after speculation he was considering opting out of the 2020 Major League Baseball Season. The 28-year-old said on July 3 he didn’t feel “comfortable” playing amid the pandemic, explaining that keeping his wife   Jessica, and their first unborn child safety”is my top priority.”

Trout, who’s widely considered the Best Baseball Player on the Planet, acknowledged that he plans to attend the birth of his first child in August but isn’t sure how quarantine protocols will work that are set by Major League Baseball. But the eight-time All-Star and 3-time MVP also said that he has a name picked out for the  baby and added “it’s a secret right now.”

But it’s been no secret that Trout has been very concerned because if he were to test positive at some point between now and the next couple weeks, he’d not only    miss the birth of his first-born child, he’d have to quarantine himself for 10 days and not be able to be with his wife Jessica, and newborn child, due to rules that had  been agreed upon by MLB & the MLB Players Association in the beginning of July. However, Trout now feels better about players taking proper safety precautions the  past couple weeks during his Angels Summer Camp Training in Anaheim, California.

“Guys have been respectful of others” Trout said. “Everybody is taking responsibility to wear a mask, do social distancing and just be safe, and we’re seeing that. The results are there. Just got to pick up a stay on it when we’re on the road,we’re going to different cities where it’s really bad right now. It’s going to be tough.  As of right now, everything is great.”

But as we all know, things can change rapidly each day with what we know now about Covid-19. Just yesterday, the Washington Nationals young phenom, Juan Soto, tested positive in Washington DC   just hours before the start of the first MLB game of the 2020 season against the New York Yankees. Soto will now have to quarantine  himself from the team and will need to test negative twice before he’s allowed to return to his team and game action. The tests are conducted through MLB & a  private facility that was contracted, and players must wait 48 hours between tests before being able to retest. Soto is the Nationals top player and centerpiece to the  2019 defending World Series Champs and the future of their season can be impacted if Soto is to miss more than 10 days, since the season is just 60-games.

The same can be said about Mike Trout. His Angels have not made the playoffs since 2014 (the only time in his MLB career which started in 2011).  Not only is he the best player in baseball, his team relies on his tremendous abilities and leadership, and if the Angels were to lose Trout’s services; even if it’s only 10 days. The Angels chances of contending or making the Post Season will be diminished.

Let’s hope for the Angels & Trout   this not the case because his teammates can’t afford to play without him. And, here’s hoping Trout & his wife Jessica, bring a  healthy child into the world.

Major League Baseball Expands 2020 Post Season to 16-Teams and Here’s Everything You Need to Know

0

The MLB regular season has fewer games, and the postseason will feature more games. That’s how Major League Baseball will operate this year after an agreement was made just before the first pitch of the 2020 season, between the owners and the MLB Players Association for a  16-team Post Season Structure.

The 60-game regular season impacted by the coronavirus pandemic runs counter to MLB’s marathon of 162 games. Between that and the entirely regional-based schedules — in which all wins count equally in terms of a particular league’s Wild Card chase but not all wins are necessarily created equally, considering the strength of schedule — it makes sense to expand beyond the usual 10-team format.

Here is a guide to understanding the new postseason format for 2020.

How many teams will reach the postseason?

Sixteen — eight from the American League, eight from the National League.

How many rounds will be played?

As has been the case since 2012, there will be four rounds. But instead of a round featuring a sudden-death Wild Card Game with the division winners resting, the format will be as follows:

Wild Card Series (best-of-three, with all games at the higher seed’s home ballpark):  No. 1 seed vs. No. 8; No. 2 vs. No. 7; No. 3 vs. No. 6; No. 4 vs. No. 5.

Division Series (best-of-five, with traditional 2-2-1 home/road format):  Winner of 1-8 vs. Winner of 4-5; Winner of 2-7 vs. Winner of 3-6. Home-field advantage goes to the higher seed.

League Championship Series (best-of-seven, with traditional 2-3-2 home/road format):  Winner of 1-4-5-8 vs. Winner of 2-3-6-7. Home-field advantage goes to the higher seed.

World Series (best-of-seven, with traditional 2-3-2 home/road format):  AL champion vs. NL champion. Home-field advantage goes to the team with the superior regular-season record.

How will the teams be seeded?

The top three seeds (Nos. 1-3) in each league will go to the three division winners (East, Central, West) in order of record.

The next three seeds (Nos. 4-6) will go to the three teams that finish in second place in their division, in order of record.

The final two seeds (Nos. 7-8) will go to the two teams with the next best records, regardless of division and division standing. Because the first- and second-place teams in each division automatically advance to October, the 7 and 8 seeds are the actual “Wild Card teams.”

What if there’s a tie (for a division championship or other postseason spot) at the conclusion of the regular season?

All ties will be resolved mathematically. No additional games will be played to break any ties. With an expanded postseason field, there is less incentive to play additional games, and this method allows for a structured schedule that doesn’t push the World Series into November.

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record (if applicable). If that’s also a tie, the next tiebreaker is intradivision record. If that’s still a tie, the next is record in the final 20 division games (plus one until the tie is broken).

Can the Division Series technically feature zero division winners?

Correct. Every team has to fight its way to that second round.

Will the higher seed be the “true” home team for all three games of the Wild Card Series (i.e. bat last)?

Yes. Having all three games in one location contributes to the expedited schedule and also serves as a reward for regular-season performance.

Will this postseason structure be used in future years?

This format is only in effect for 2020.  As with all things related to the pandemic, there is always a chance of scheduling and other changes in 2021. But any temporary or permanent changes to postseason structure must be collectively bargained. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires after 2021.

When does the postseason begin?

The best-of-three Wild Card Series will run from Tuesday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 2. The entire postseason schedule will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Who will broadcast the expanded Wild Card round?

ESPN will televise seven of the eight series. TBS will carry the other.

From what we’ve learned with the COVID-19 pandemic, things can always change but for now this is how the 2020 post season will play out. From a technical standpoint, this looks good on paper, and will give fans of mediocre teams more to cheer about, because in a 60-game season…well, anything can happen. The MLB Players’ Union had to jointly  agree on this arrangement with the MLB owners. With the expansion of 16 teams (instead of 10) it gives the owners an opportunity to earn more revenue from television contracts — assuming fans are still not permitted to attend MLB games come October. The MLB Players’ incentive is a greater chance of making the playoffs and more earning potential other than their  prorated salaries. The 2020 playoff expansion of 16 teams is more than half of the 30 MLB teams. However, this shows “good faith” on the MLB Players’ Union for agreeing on this format when they negotiate their new Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2021.

Facebook commits $200 million to Black owned businesses

A letter from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg

The last few weeks have made clear how much work is ahead to achieve racial justice and equity in this country. To help drive progress, Facebook is committing over $200 million to support Black businesses and organizations.

We’ve been speaking with Black business owners to understand how we can best support them, and in the short term, we’ve heard that financial support can go a long way, especially during a pandemic and economic downturn that have disproportionately impacted communities of color.

We’re building on our Covid-19 grant program and making an additional $100 million in cash and ad credits available to support Black-owned businesses, creators and non-profits serving Black communities in the US. To make sure we are supporting the community in our own business practices, we’re also committing to spend at least $100 million with Black-owned suppliers, part of a goal to spend $1 billion with diverse suppliers next year and every year thereafter.

While financial investments help, I know it’s not enough to address the systemic inequalities that the Black community has faced for generations. We can’t build products to serve the world without a diverse and inclusive workforce. We already have a goal for 50% of our workforce to be from underrepresented communities by the end of 2023, and we’re further committing to double the number of Black and Latinx employees in the same timeframe. Over the next five years, we’re committing to have 30% more people of color, including 30% more Black people, in leadership positions. We will also continue our ongoing efforts to increase the representation of women in leadership. And we’re continuing to work on our policies, products and decision-making processes as I outlined in my post last week.

Today is one more step on this journey. We’ll have more to come soon.

BRAVO!            Mark Zuckerberg    and Sheryl Sandberg!

Los Angeles Dodgers Joe Kelly Goes Headhunting in Houston as MLB Issues 8-Game Suspension For His Antics

It was predictable. It was inevitable. It was only a matter of time and Joe Kelly of the Los Angeles Dodgers struck first. Then MLB struck with an 8-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Houston Astros 3rd baseman, Alex Bregman. In what had been anticipated between the two rivals who faced each other in the 2017 World Series, took only a matter of 6 innings, during their first meeting of 2020.

The Dodgers have been dealing with a lot of resentment after finding out this offseason that the Astros cheated. They implemented an illegal and elaborate sign-stealing scheme during 2017. The Astros were fined $5 million for the antics by MLB, their Manager A.J. Hinch was fired, and the team will lose their 1st two round draft picks for 2 years.

When both clubs took the field Tuesday night in Houston, words were exchanged, and dugouts cleared in the 6th inning. Kelly, known throughout MLB as an instigator, threw fastballs up-and-in to both Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa, while also shouting at the batters as he walked off the mound. Astros Manager Dusty Baker told reporters that Kelly said “Nice swing, bitch” to Correa after striking him out in the 6th. He then got Jose Altuve out of one-pitch. Then after throwing three straight balls to Bregman, the fourth pitch sailed right over the backside of his head for ball four, and Bregman nonchalantly went to first base.

Kelly wasn’t even on the 2017 Dodgers team, but he was on the Red Sox team that lost to the Astros in the 2017 ALDS. It should also be noted that the Red Sox would go on to defeat the Astros in the following year’s ALCS on their way to a 2018 World Series title, but the Red Sox were also involved in a sign-stealing scandal of their own this off season.

This offseason, before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a four-month delay to the start of the 2020 season, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred sent out memos warning all teams about intentionally throwing at Astro players throughout the 2020 season.

“Retaliation in-game by throwing at a batter intentionally will not be tolerated” Manfred said. “Whether it’s Houston or anybody else, it’s dangerous and it’s not helpful to the current situation.”

Keeping his word, Manfred issued the lengthiest suspension for an MLB player I can think of and eight-games for a relief pitcher such as Joe Kelly, is the equivalent to 22-games during a normal 162 game season. However, the 2020 season has been shortened to only 60-games.

Manfred definitely sent a message to the Dodgers and the entire MLB and threw down the hammer on Kelly with the 8-game suspension, which Kelly elected to appeal, making him available to pitch until a hearing.   Good luck with that Joe.

MLB also suspended Dodgers manager Dave Roberts one game for his actions, and he’ll serve his suspension during Wednesday’s series finale against Houston.Astros manager Dusty Baker was fined an undisclosed amount for his role in the incident between the two clubs.

Pitchers throwing at batters is considered part of the game for the players that dates back over 100 years. However, MLB does not tolerate it as shown by the hefty suspension of Kelly. In the meantime, the Dodgers & Astros will return to action Tonight and don’t be surprised if there’s more fireworks between both clubs.
