Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg tease for new show ‘American Song Contest’

Monday will see the debut of a new show called “American Song Contest” on NBC. The show will focus on home pride as contestants from all the U.S. states, territories and the capital will compete against each other. It is similar to the Eurovision Song Contest. Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg will host the series.

A super tease of the new show has the Southern California bred rapper Snoop Dogg representing his state while Kelly Clarkson represents Texas as well its rallying words “Go big or go home.” She also said that every musician felt the same way about their hometowns.

The new series will have live original performances by musical stars from all the 50 states of the nation, the five U.S. territories as well as the capital of the U.S. These 56 artists will include new talent that has been discovered, up-and-coming singers as well as legendary icons.

Some of the legendary icons include the following
Michael Bolton from Connecticut
Jewel from Alaska
Sisqo from Maryland.

The eight-week competition that will be live will have qualifying rounds, semifinals and finals. The singers can be solo performers, duo, a group or a band. The musical talent has to represent a location across the nation and perform a new song.

According to the show, each new, original song will “celebrate the depth and variety of different styles and genres” of music that are prevalent across the nation.

The European Broadcasting Union has organized the Eurovision Song Contest for 65 years and gets 200 million views each year. It remains to be seen how popular “American Song Contest” by NBC will become; after its premier show airs live on March 21, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The debut episode of the show will include performances by
Michael Bolton of Connecticut
Kelsey Lamb of Arkansas
Christian Pagan of Puerto Rico
AleXa of Oklahoma and many other artistes.

RHONY Luann de Lesseps apologizes for NYC bar incident, says ‘struggles with alcohol are real’

0

On Saturday, the Real Housewives of New York (RHONY) star Luann de Lesseps apologized to the staff and patrons at a New York City bar. She was involved in an incident there, on Thursday. She was not sober, at that time. The Bravo star received support from other stars of the Real Housewives franchise, after she apologized on Instagram, following the incident.

She sang on the mic while patrons and staff were present in the piano room, in the gay bar. She kept on singing and also told patrons “f*** you” when she was booed. She was eventually asked to leave the bar but she denied that. She reportedly did not allow others to sing and was booed when she reportedly sang off key leading her to use expletives against the crowd who booed her.

In a lengthy statement, the 57-year old star said that she faced up to the truth after a regrettable incident for which she wanted “to apologize to the staff at Townhouse and anyone else I may have offended by my behavior.”

She said that it was clear that her “struggles with alcohol are real.” She said that there have been times when she had fallen, although she had also made great strides. She said that it was “one day at a time.” She mentioned that she was in recovery and was taking steps to ensure that such an incident did not occur again. She added that she was grateful to her family and her friends for “their constant support.”

Her statement on Instagram received support from fellow Bravo stars of the same franchise. Real Housewives of New Jersey star Margaret Josephs replied with a host of emojis with hearts and more. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Lisa Rinna sent her love and also put a heart emoji in her post. Former Real Housewives of New York star Kelly Bensimon said that they loved her and supported her.

Luan de Lesseps has found it difficult to maintain sobriety. She has been in and out of rehab, a few times these past few years. We wish her well.

Have Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez bought a mansion in Bel Air Los Angeles

Image Jlo Instagram Official: Ben Affleck Instagram Official

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have been together for a year. While fans have been ecstatic that the couple rekindled their romance that began around 2003, but they split later, there is still better news as the couple are reportedly in escrow. They should be moving into a massive mansion in Bel Air, California. It costs over $50 million and is said to be a 20,000 square foot estate. The couple had earlier looked at property in Beverly Hills and other areas in Los Angeles.

Real estate sources told TMZ that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were buying a huge estate in the exclusive Bel Air area in Los Angeles. The mansion has 10 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms. And that is not all! It has more than one kitchen as well, a theater, a gym and more.

There is a his and hers bathtub as well as an infinity edge pool. There are garage spaces attached to the house. The house is surrounded by trees, offering a lot of privacy. However, it also has a compelling city view.

The sources said that the deal has not as yet been completely finalized. The property is owned by Texan billionaire Todd Lemkin and was listed for $65 million. However, the couple will reportedly pay somewhere in the mid-50 million dollars range, according to the outlet.

Ben and Jennifer who have children each from former spouses, intend to bring all their children to the mansion. The 52-year old singer has twins–Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The 49-year old actor and director has three children–Violet, Seraphina and Samuel with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

Jennifer Lopez was living in Miami, earlier. However, as their romance blossomed again, in April 21, the couple began house hunting in Los Angeles. In February, on an appearance on the Today show, Jennifer Lopez said that both of them had learned that when a person was lucky enough to find love, “you have to hold a little bit of that privately.”

Goodbye Austin, Hallo Berlin! Elon Musk lands in Germany to open Tesla gigafactory

0

On Monday, twitter user @ElonJet, who tracks the Tesla CEO’s private jet movements, said that Elon Musk appears to have landed in Berlin, Germany. He had reportedly left Austin, Texas about 10 hours ago, according to the Twitter user. About a week ago, the gigafactory of Tesla near Berlin, Germany, had received all the necessary clearances to begin production.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to visit the factory, on Tuesday. German press also reported that the CEO Elon Musk is planning to personally give its customers the first Model Y cars that have rolled out of the gigafactory of Tesla Inc. in Germany. The factory is located at Gruenheide which is 22 miles southeast of Berlin. It is constructed on land that was earlier earmarked for BMW, who changed the location of their factory to Leipzig.

The gigafactory near Berlin is the first factory by the electric vehicle maker in Europe. It has three other gigafactories in the U.S. in Fremont, California, in Sparks, Nevada and in Buffalo New York (for solar cells) and one in Shanghai, China. Tesla Inc. claims that the German factory is its “most advanced, sustainable, and efficient factory” as of now. It said that the factory will produce both Model Y Tesla vehicles as well as batteries.

Tesla Inc. planned to open the Berlin factory in 2021. However, it added a battery facility that delayed clearance as there were environmental objections. The electric vehicle maker went ahead with its construction plans and received final permits on March 4, 2022. The Brandenburg Minister-President Woidke announced that the factory had received its permits, in a press release.

The gigafactory in Berlin is expected to rollout hundreds of thousands of Model Y Tesla electric vehicles as well as millions of batteries, over time. There are still a huge number of vacancies available. It cost $5 billion and is located in Europe as Elon Musk reportedly wants to beat car giant Volkswagen, on its home turf.

Last-lap pass nets Corey Heim first Truck Series win

HAMPTON, Ga. — Moments after taking the white flag in Saturday’s FR8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Corey Heim powered to the inside of Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate Chandler Smith, got a push from teammate John Hunter Nemechek and held on to win his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

Heim’s No. 51 Toyota crossed the finish line 0.173 seconds ahead of the Toyota of Ben Rhodes, as Ty Majeski came home third and Smith slipped to fourth. Daytona winner Zane Smith completed the top five on the repaved and reconfigured track.

“It’s awesome — I was at the right place at the right time,” said Heim, 19, of Marietta, Ga., who won in his fifth Truck Series start. “Toyota Racing just helps us so much to get here and I’m just so glad to be here.”

Heim is racing a partial schedule and is not competing for the series championship. Smith, the winner at Las Vegas two weeks ago, is running a full schedule for KBM, but that didn’t seem to matter with one lap to go.

“Yeah, no, team orders there,” Heim said. “I think as long as one of the KBM trucks won, that’s all that matters. So, you know, the 18 (Smith) did awesome job defending for most of the race there and the 4 (Nemechek) stuck with me when it mattered the most.

“So I’ve got to give all the credit to John Hunter Nemechek for helping me out there. It’s just surreal. Awesome.”

Nemechek was a lap down but running with the lead pack at the finish. Smith would have preferred for Nemechek not to have influenced the outcome.

“It would have been nice to not have anybody in the middle of it — just lead-lap cars — but it is what it is,” Smith said. “I’m happy for them. Good for them. That’s their first win of the year. So it’s first one for Corey. That’s exciting. I remember how I was being able to win the first one. It was a really cool moment. So happy for him, that whole group …

“Just sucks that it had to end like that. I wish we could have just duked it out.”

Stewart Friesen was the wire-to-wire winner of Stage 1, which ran without caution despite Hailie Deegan’s No. 1 Ford suffering a cut tire and a subsequent fire on pit road that caused the driver to be taken to the infield care center for evaluation.

Deegan was released shortly thereafter.

After working his way from the rear of the field — thanks to a pre-race penalty for unapproved adjustments to his No. 4 KBM Toyota — Nemechek took the green/checkered flag to win Stage 2, which was interrupted by a single yellow flag for debris on the frontstretch on Lap 50.

Friesen made a strategic play in pitting under that caution and regained the lead when the trucks ahead of him in the running order came to pit road during the second stage break.

A spate of cautions and consequent restarts scrambled the running order during the final stage, as Rhodes, Heim and Chandler Smith swapped the lead.

Nemechek slapped the outside wall after a restart on Lap 107 and fell one lap down after pitting under green.

Government program to offer $5Million for information on Russian oligarchs’ assets in U.S.

0

The Treasury Department is offering Americans huge awards amounting to up to five million dollars if they provide information of U.S. assets that belong to Russian oligarchs, through a government program. The assets can include yachts, private jets, mansions, investments, jewelry, art and other luxury goods.

The program is called the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Program. Rewards will be given if the information provided by Americans leads to the restraint or seizure of these assets. It will also be awarded if there is forfeiture or reparation of stolen assets to an account that is present at a US financial institution, or if the asset enters the U.S. or if it is under the possession or control of a US person.

Americans need not only report physical assets to get rewards. Financial holdings under the name of oligarchs whom the U.S. government believes are aiding the Russians who have invaded Ukraine, can also be reported, if they are held in the nation.

The website of the Treasury Department states that it is looking for assets that are “linked to corruption involving the government of the Russian federation.” The program was approved last year by Congress and also applies to assets linked to corruption by other foreign governments.

A committee set up by the Treasury Department will consider the eligibility of the reward on a “case-to-case” basis. The reward has to be finalized and approved by Janet Yellen, the Treasury Secretary.

Russian oligarchs, organizations and other individuals have already faced sanctions from the U.S. government, the U.K. government and the European Union. Several yachts and have been seized while others have fled to international waters or to countries that have not imposed sanctions.

However, there is a huge amount of hidden wealth not only stashed away through off shore or private transfers by Russian oligarchs but also by dictators, presidents and heads of countries whom the U.S. has relations with and rich individuals from all over the world, who have used legal loopholes present in some states to park their ill gotten gains in the nation.

Which movies are topping the box office this weekend

If you are a movie buff, I am sure you must have already seen “The Batman” with Robert Pattinson. The newest actor to play the superhero, Pattinson has delivered a dark and nuanced performance and has enthralled both critics and fans alike, keeping the film at the top position of the box office for the third consecutive week. It grossed $10.6 million on Friday, from 4,302 locations. “The Batman” is projected to reach $300 million by Monday.

“The Batman” will be the second movie to reach a domestic gross of $300 million in this pandemic era. The Warner Bros movie follows “Spider Man: No Way Home,” which remains the highest grossing film since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which shut down movie theaters due to periodic lockdowns. However, both the superhero movies have brought audiences back to the theaters, as the pandemic wanes and life is coming back to normal. The Matt Reeves directed film scored A- from the general ticket buyers.

The Batman not only features Robert Pattinson as the dark superhero but also features Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Others in the cast include Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

Although “The Batman” is still comfortable at the top of the box office, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” an anime film by Crunchyroll and Funimation is providing some competition. The movie grossed $8.68 million on Friday. It was released in 2,340 locations and is expected to earn $19 million in its first weekend opening. It is a prequel to “Jujutsu Kaisen.”

The other Friday release horror film “X” had a low opening of $1.75 million from 2,865 locations. It is estimated that the A24 horror film’s earnings will increase to up to $5 million over the weekend. Horror movies generally do well so, its performance is considered underwhelming. However, “X” got a 95 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sony’s video adaptation “Unchartered” is expected to earn $8.33 million through the weekend. It also stars Tom Holland, whose “Spiderman: No Way Home” has finally dropped from the top five at the box office after a record 13-week reign. The Marvel money spinner is expected to earn $3.6 million at the sixth position, while Channing Tatum’s “Dog” is expected to earn $4.33 million this weekend.

Why is Spotify Looking for WEB 3 Developers?

The WEB 3 movement advocates for redesigning the internet so that major online services can be shifted to decentralized technologies like blockchain.

The buzz surrounding WEB 3  has drawn some of the world’s brightest minds in technology.

Music streaming app Spotify is on the lookout for WEB 3 talent and is looking to add Web3-centric candidates to its workforce. The streaming giant has advertised two job openings with a focus on Web3 efforts, joining a growing list of corporations wanting to hire in the nascent industry, including Disney and Nike.

The company advertised a senior backend engineer position on LinkedIn, saying the person would enable cooperation with product, insights, and design to find the next growth opportunity leveraging new technologies, such as WEB 3. The engineer will work with Spotify’s freemium division’s experimental growth “Edison team.”

Web3 is a catch-all phrase for the future generation of the internet, which includes NFTs, cryptocurrencies, the metaverse, and decentralized (i.e., not controlled by a single company or person) tools. Despite the term’s broad definition, some organizations have included it in their job postings in recent months.

It is unclear what Spotify’s plans for WEB 3 are, but it joins a slew of other major businesses that have recently adopted the nascent technology into their operations. YouTube, Facebook parent company Meta, and Microsoft have all used the phrase WEB 3 in their job advertisements or discussed it.

In the last week, YouTube has advertised at least three Web3-related positions on LinkedIn, including a director of product management who will create, develop, and execute the vision, strategy, and road map for Web3 at YouTube.

Fashion and apparel companies, in addition to large IT corporations, have increased their quest for employees with experience in the metaverse and Web3 technologies, as they increasingly pursue the opportunity to create digital versions of their products. Shoe and clothing mammoth Nike has entered the talent hunt as well. On LinkedIn, the corporation had at least 11 job advertisements that featured the terms “Web3” or “metaverse” as of Thursday.

Now that Spotify has joined the long line of mainstream internet titans on the Web3 bandwagon, analysts are also speculating on its footprint for crypto technology.

Pixar restores same sex kiss in ‘Lightyear’ after staff protest ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill inaction

On March 9, LGBTQ employees and allies who work for Pixar had sent a joint statement to the leadership at Walt Disney. They asserted that Disney executives removed “overtly gay affection” in movies made by the animation company. This protest followed the larger protest by employees who were extremely annoyed with their bosses for not taking action against the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill passed in Florida.

Variety reports that there has been at least one step taken forward as a source close to the production of “Lightyear” which is Pixar’s next feature film said that a kiss between two characters, both of whom are women, had been earlier cut. Now, the scene has been restored.

The movie features Buzz Lightyear and is a spinoff of Toy Story. The new version portrays a more realistic depiction of how Buzz Lightyear is trained. Chris Evans voices the role of Lightyear. The film shows how he protects the universe from villain Emperor Zurg.

Employees of Pixar Animation had objected to the censorship of a scene where Hawthorne, voiced by Uzo Aduba, kisses her partner, who belongs to the sex as her. However, the scene has reportedly being added back before the scheduled release on June 17, 2022 in theaters near you.

An employee said that there was no debate about the portrayal of a same sex relationship in the film. What upset employees was the removal of the kiss scene as it indicated intimacy between two partners of the same sex.

The letter by Pixar employees said that the LGBTQ employees and their allies at Pixar had personally seen beautiful stories with characters who were diverse, “come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were.” The letter also mentioned that Disney cut almost every moment of “overtly gay affection.”

In the past, Disney has avoided portraying overtly gay affection in its movies as they have an international release and some countries will not allow such portrayals. It remains to be seen if the kiss scene would be censored when “Lightyear” is released in markets that have strict laws and rules against the LGBTQ community.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg advises young people to build relationships

0
(Photo: Facebook)

Mark Zuckerberg recently advised young people to build relationships instead of only focusing on objectives. The founder of Facebook was speaking with computer scientist Lex Fridman. The MIT scientist hosts the “Lex Fridman Podcast.”

The Meta CEO said that he was able to launch Facebook in 2004 because of the personal connections he had forged while at school, rather than dropping out of college or foregoing other interests to focus on building the world famous social media platform which is visited by close to 3 billion people each day.

Zuckerberg said that “the most important decision” made on campus was the people you spent time with as “you become the people you surround yourself with.” He also mentioned that his belief was that people were more “objective focused” and might not focus on the “connections” and the people with whom they were “building relationships.”

Although Mark Zuckerberg remains the most popular face behind the social media platform, Facebook was co-founded by Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Andrew McCollum, who were also students at Harvard. The company they founded–Facebook, now called Meta, had a market cap of $582.58, Friday afternoon.

Although there was a messy split, Zuckerberg maintains that he continues to try to prioritize relationships over objectives. He said that he would only hire a person to work with him if he thought that he could work for that person, instead of being the person’s boss.

The Meta CEO said that such an environment would be more cohesive as well as more productive. Such an environment would facilitate goal achievements. He added that it was “all about finding personal compatibility” and compared it to “choosing friends or a partner.”

However, this strategy has failed Zuckerberg in at least one instance as he was a big defender of Peter Thiel, who was one of those who influenced him in not fact-checking political ads on his social media platform.

This aberration by Zuckerberg made three longtime board members leave Facebook. It also lead to criticism from both Republicans and Democrats on how Facebook manages the content posted on its platform.
