Warner Bros, HBO, CNN and Discovery close deal to form giant media house

On Friday afternoon, the much discussed deal between Discovery and Warner Bros., CNN and HBO was closed. The new company will be called Warner Bros. Discovery. The behemoth is expected to stream huge amounts of content from its combined content. David Zaslav will be the new CEO of the merged companies.

The merger between the two popular media companies had been approved by the US Department of Justice and the European Commission before the “close” of the deal. The boards of directors of Discovery as well as AT&T had approved of the merger, months ago.

Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to begin trading, Monday morning. The new ticker is WBD and its new site for the giant corporate is WBD.com. The market has been bullish about the merger and some in the Street call it a “buy” stock.

The May announcements last year have finally led to an April official merger this year. CEO David Zaslav is expected to address the combined staff, later in the week. There have already been some shake ups, resignations and more. Jason Kilar of WarnerMedia exited on Friday, while Jeff Zucker was asked to step down from CNN, weeks ago. However, the cable news company has a new CEO in Chris Licht.

The new powerhouse will combine two giant streaming platforms HBO Max and Discovery+. Their combined revenue would be roughly close to 50 billion and they will stream a wide diversity of original and archived content. The merged streaming platform will compete with existing giants Netflix and Walt Disney who currently are the top streaming platforms.

David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO said that the merger announcement marked an exciting milestone not only for the new company but also for the shareholders, distributors, advertisers, creative partners, and consumers, all over the world.

He added that the content presented by Warner Bros. Discovery will have “the most differentiated and complete portfolio” that would span different media such as film, TV and streaming.

William Byron’s return to Truck Series comes in winning form

William Byron proved emphatically Thursday night that he still knew how to drive a truck.

Making only his second start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since 2016 — after a blown engine knocked him out of last year’s Nashville race — Byron parlayed perfect pit strategy into a decisive victory in the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

In his last full season in the series in 2016, Byron won seven races before moving on to the Xfinity Series and finally to the Cup Series.

With Kevin “Bono” Manion on his pit box, and with input from Cup crew chief Rudy Fugle, Byron brought his No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet to pit road for the final time on Lap 83 of 200 and took over the lead when the trucks ahead of him pitted at the end of Stage 2 on Lap 104.

The 24-year-old from Charlotte, N.C., led all but two of the final 96 laps and beat runner-up Johnny Sauter to the finish line by 1.138 seconds. Kyle Busch ran third, followed by John Hunter Nemechek and defending series champion Ben Rhodes.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Byron, who already has a Cup victory at Atlanta in hand this season. “Great crowd here at Martinsville. I’ve never won a race at Martinsville and struggled here when I was in late models.

“Yeah, just awesome to get the win tonight — a great truck tonight, the HendrickCars.com Chevrolet. Thanks to Spire, all the guys back at their shop. They don’t have a lot of guys, and they do it right, obviously. It was fun to work with Bono, have a little help from Rudy. Obviously, he knows the trucks pretty well.”

The race was a homecoming for Sauter, too. Making his second start of the season, the 2016 series champion was driving a ThorSport Racing Toyota for the first time since last year, his last full-time season with the organization.

Junior Joiner, long-time crew chief for Matt Crafton, returned to call the race for Sauter after retiring from full-time competition at the end of the 2021 season.

“I told Joiner today, I said, don’t listen to me when I give you feedback on the first run,” Sauter said. “I called for an adjustment, and I shouldn’t have. I thought we fired off tremendous and just got a little too tight there at the two-thirds mark of the corner…

“It was the first in-house chassis, in-house body for ThorSport. To come home second was pretty solid.”

Sauter chased Byron after the final restart with 36 laps left but couldn’t match the speed of Byron’s Silverado.

The race featured 11 cautions for 71 laps. Zane Smith won the first stage wire-to-wire, and Rhodes claimed the second-stage win.

Chandler Smith, Crafton, Grant Enfinger, Zane Smith and Tyler Ankrun finished sixth through 10th. Rhodes leads the Truck Series standings by four points over second-place Chandler Smith.

Rapinoe says Cease and Desist to apply to Dwayne Johnson over new XFL logo

Megan Rapinoe has said that she could take legal action against Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as she alleges that the new logo of the XFL shared by him is too similar to the one that defines TogetherXR’s brand. This media company was founded by Rapinoe’s wife Sue Bird along with Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim and Simone Manuel while The Rock took over XFL from Vince MacMahon, the owner.

The US soccer star posted a tweet on Thursday, April 7 where she shared a screenshot of the new branding of the XFL by The Rock. She captioned it “Welp. This is awkward.” She added that both The Rock and XFL2023 would have to respond to a “Cease and Desist” as the TogetherXR brand already “got this on [lock] boys.”

Rapinoe also referred to Johnson’s time with the WWE when he was a wrestler using the name “The Rock.” She paraphrased his catch phrase “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” in her post.

Sue Bird also shared a photo of the XFL brand and mentioned that it “looked familiar.”

TogetherXR has not specified why they have an issue with Johnson’s brand. However, the X in The Rock’s brand is very similar to the X in the brand founded by Bird and other Olympians to help young people move away from conventional roles that are laid down for women by society and promote both inclusivity and positivity.

Dwayne Johnson is not only one of the highest paid actors but is also an entrepreneur with several endeavors and endorsements. He relaunched the XFL with a new logo on Thursday, on Twitter but was immediately called out Megan Rapinoe.

In 2001, WWE chairman and CEO Vince MacMahon had founded the XFL as an edgier version of the NFL. However, it saw a lot of downtime. Johnson, along with business partner Dany Garcia, bought the league and were looking to revive it, February 2023.

There has been no comment from Dwayne The Rock Johnson as well as the Olympian founders of TogetherXR, after the posts were up, Thursday.

Tom Brady appears shirtless in video promoting clothing brand

Tom Brady almost broke the internet as he appeared shirtless on a video promoting his clothing brand. The apparently humorous video became more of a trending video as it showcased his fit and ripped body that sent fans into raptures, making the video viral. The Brady video was released on Thursday, April 7, on Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CcDpJP7AQU1/

The video clip shows a shirtless Brady talking to someone who cannot be seen. The image focuses on his fit body including his pecs, biceps and shoulders. Later, in the video, he puts the phone on the ground, revealing that his quads are ripped, as well. He soon steps on the phone and appears wearing a Brady brand jacket.

His clothing line was officially launched in January 2022. The jacket he was promoting has a cost of $145. The “Zero Weight Train Track Jacket” is trendy but it might have been the shirtless images that made it trend Thursday.

At the end of the video, the #12 quarterback of the Buccaneers revealed that he had broken his phone screen as he had stomped on it for the shoot.

He said, “We broke the screen bro. Brady Brand. My Zero Weight Track Jacket. It looks pretty great–that’s what we are trying to sell here.” He also added that he had “to get a new phone.” The video was reportedly shot in his home gym.

The BRADY brand site describes the jacket as one that could be worn both for an “early morning hustle and the late night grind.” It also lists other features including materials, sizes, colors and care instructions. If the jacket gets as many sales as the video got hits, the quarterback would add millions more, to his wealth.

Earlier, 44-year old Tom Brady made headlines when he spoke of retiring from football. Within weeks, he came back from retirement and said that he would continue playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His Thursday video shows that he is definitely fit to play again.

Has Kanye West moved on as he takes Chaney Jones to grandmother’s surprise birthday party

Celebrity Kanye West has been quiet on social media. However, he appeared at his grandmother’s surprise party held on her 85th birthday. He has been seen in two videos that were posted by family members. He is accompanied by Celebrity Model Chaney Jones who is also seen on the videos. This suggests that Ye has moved on and could be taking his relationship with her to the next level as she meets his family. Earlier, we had reported that Pete Davidson’s grandparents had met Kim Kardashian at a movie set, when he was filming.

One of the videos shows the rapper’s grandmother at an angle that shows people lined up to meet and wish her. A family member accompanies Chaney and is heard saying, “This is Chaney, Kanye’s girlfriend.”

Many of the family members attended the celebrations. Kanye was seen smiling in the videos. He spoke to his grandmother as well other family members. He looked relaxed with Chaney by his side.

Kanye has not been seen in public from over a week. There had been rumors that he had gone for a private retreat, to sort out his personal issues that had caused others great anguish and him a cancellation of his performance at the Grammys. He had also been banned from posting on social media for 24 hours.

His appearance at his grandmother’s party, surrounded by family members and his girl friend, looking happy quashed those earlier rumors that had been floating a while. Earlier, we had also reported that his representative had also shot down those rumors.

Model Chaney Jones looks a lot like Kim Kardashian, according to several fans. However, the Donda 2 rapper has taken her to meet the family. He has lavished her with gifts and they look happy together in photos. So, we wish Kanye and Chaney the best as we wish Kim and Pete the best and hope the peace continues as the four children they had when they were married, live their lives in two different households and need peace and quiet to thrive.

Walmart increases driver pay, launches new program–Walmart Private Fleet

Walmart has been the leader and innovator in the nation when it comes to “turning ambition into opportunity.” It has further cemented this vision by taking the same approach for their supply chain. America’s biggest retailer has started the Walmart Private Fleet Program.

On Thursday, the company also announced that it was raising the pay of approximately 12,000 drivers. It described their drivers as professionals who were “dedicated to safety.” The pay rise had been undertaken to make sure that the company remained one of the world’s best companies, for its drivers.

The new investments by the big box retail could lead to an income of up to $110,000 in their first year of service. Experienced drivers, who have been with Walmart for longer periods of time will earn additional benefits which will be based on factors such as tenure as well as location.

Walmart associates have access to the Live Better U program where the retailer covers expenses for tuition and books that will help to get a college degree. They also have a network of Walmart Academies across the U.S. Now the company has debuted its “first ever Walmart Private Fleet Development Program.”

The program has a duration of 12-weeks. Supply chains associates in the following locations: Dallas, Texas and Dover, Delaware earned their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Armed with a CDL they become drivers for the program. About 20 workers have completed the program and up to 800 workers could complete the program by the end of the year.

The company said that it was providing their supply chain associates with other skills that had been developed in its Academies and LBU through its massive training infrastructure. These training institutions equip Walmart stores and their associates with specific skills that are needed as per their role in the company, and with leadership skills, with college degree, and with certifications.

This already available infrastructure helped Walmart to launch the driver pipeline program. The CDL drivers, in turn help trainees as teachers and mentors, leading to a larger number of qualified drivers for Walmart.

March World food prices soar to an ‘all-time high’ due to Ukraine war, FAO says

0

As the war in Ukraine continues, despite Russia withdrawing from Kyiv, both lives and livelihoods are lost. As the war sees no end in sight as yet, though we remain positive that it could be around the corner, food prices have hit an “all-time high in March.” The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has released its FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) which indicates that prices have risen in the indexes of all food commodities.

The FFPI measures the monthly change in international food prices of five major commodity groups. In March 2022, the FFPI average was 159.3 points, an increase of 17.9 points or 12.6 percent when compared with the average last month. This is the highest level since 1990, when the index was introduced by the World Food Body.

Although the prices of all food groups have increased in the month, vegetable oils, cereals and meat sub-indices have reached all time high levels. Prices of sugar and dairy products have also increased considerably.

The FAO monitors rise in the following food commodities each month
The FAO Food Price Index
The FAO Cereal Price Index
The FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index
The FAO Dairy Price Index
The FAO Meat Price Index
The FAO Sugar Price Index.

The Cereal Price Index was was up by 24.9 points, which is a 17.1 increase from last month. The conflict in Ukraine led to a decrease in exports from Ukraine and to some extent the decrease in exports from the Russian federation, as well. Reduced maize exports from Ukraine as well as increase in energy costs were the major reasons behind the surge in coarse grains prices as prices of other grains such as sorghum and barley also increased due to the tight supply of maize. Rice prices remained fairly stable.

The Vegetable Oil Price Index saw a increase of 46.9 points which is a 23.2 percent increase in March. There is a major surge in price increase in all vegetable oils as reduced supplies in sunflower oil lead to an increased demand in rapeseed, soy and palm oil. Volatility in the crude oil market also lead to an increase in vegetable oil prices.

The FAO Dairy Price Index increased by 2.6 percent while the FAO Meat Price Index increased by 4.8 percent from February. The FAO Sugar Price Index increased by 6.7 percent from the prices last month.

August Alsina New Song Alludes to Jada Pinkett Smith

Celebrity American singer August Anthony Alsina Jr., alias August Alsina, appears to be exhuming the twisted intricacies of their now-defunct relationship in a new song called ‘Shake the World.’ He is the personality that Jada Pinkett Smith acknowledged having an adulterous “entanglement” with.

Alsina sings on the single. His provocative lyrics come in the wake of Will Smith, Pinkett Smith’s spouse of nearly three decades, slapping comedian Chris Rock for taunting the actress about her short hair during the Oscars on March 27.

The R&B vocalist and Jada Pinkett Smith’s former boyfriend, has reportedly alluded to their relationship in the new song, which was released just days after Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock at the Oscars. The not-so-cryptic lyrics were quickly decoded by Twitter detectives, who are now accusing him of reigniting the old fires of his and Pinkett-fling.

Alsina, who formed an incredibly strong and public bond with Pinkett Smith in 2015 and openly confessed to their romantic relationship in 2020, also mentions being canceled after the leading lady disclosed their affair, alongside a bemused Smith, on her Facebook series “Red Table Talk” in July 2020.

Jada appeared to reveal an ‘entanglement’ and type of intimate involvement with Alsina that took place throughout her amicable break with her husband Will. She later denied that Will gave any blessing to Jada and August to be together, so as to suggest an open marriage. In an interview on The Breakfast Club radio, she clarified that Alsina may have viewed it as a blessing due to the couple being on a break and wanted to convey that he was not a homewrecker.

Jaden Smith introduced the singer-songwriter to his mother, and he joined them on a trip to Hawaii in 2016. Alsina was also seen alongside Pinkett Smith at the 2017 BET Awards. The singer claims that Jada and he had had a close emotional bond from the start, which later developed into a romantic relationship that lasted for years until he fell in love with her.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have made multiple headlines in recent years regarding their relationship and whether or not they are married openly. Rumors began to circulate when the Smiths made separate public announcements about their marriage, culminating in Alsina’s account of events.
