Liz Cheney get a line up of Republican donors as she confronts Trump

0

On Monday, Bobbie and Bill Kilberg began fundraising for Liz Cheney’s reelection in Wyoming. They thought that the Republican donors would be limited to a few dozens. They decided to host a cocktail party for them at their home located in McLean, Virginia. However, the numbers who wanted to attend and meet her and Mitt Romney were so many that they moved to a bigger venue and limited the number of invitees to 75.

If you wondered why Liz Cheney has become so popular and how come there is so much interest in her despite Trump’s avowal to ensure her defeat in the primaries, then the answer is the that this is the reason why she is getting Republican support as she is seen as an anti-Trump champion, which is welcomed by a section of Republicans. However, she needs to win in Wyoming first on August 16, to spread her wings at a national level.

Liz Cheney will face a strong primary challenger–Harriet Hageman. She is not only a one-time adviser of the congresswoman but is also endorsed by Trump and has almost totally cleared the field making a direct contest between her and Liz. Defeating Liz is one of Trump’s top priorities as she is one of the few vocal anti-Trump voices in the GOP.

When asked for comment about national aspirations, Liz Cheney’s spokesperson did not comment. However, Liz has been raising her profile by visiting New Hampshire and speaking at national Republican organizations including the Ripon Society. She has also raised huge funds. In the last quarter of 2021, she raised $2 million, which is a personal record.

Two famous Republicans, who have played major roles in the nation–George W. Bush and Mitt Romney have introduced their broad donor networks, directly to her. She also has a lot of familial support and she comes from an old and prominent Republican family.

Justin Bieber ‘very worried’ after wife Hailey got ‘small blood clot’

The young celebrity couple Canadian born singer Justin Bieber and his model wife Hailey Bieber faced medical problems, these past few weeks. Although Justin has recovered from a bout of COVID-19 that he caught in February, he is extremely worried about Hailey. On Thursday, she had been hospitalized at Palm Springs after suffering from a “small blood clot.” She has recovered, since but her husband is “very worried” about her health.

A source told PEOPLE that the 28-year old “Baby” singer is struggling to cope with the 25-year old model’s hospitalization. Although Hailey doesn’t want anybody to worry about her, the incident that was almost like a stroke, frightened the couple and Bieber is said to be “very worried” about her.

The source also told the outlet that Justin was unable to sleep. She said the Love Yourself singer stays awake “watching” Hailey while she takes rest.

On Saturday, Hailey had posted in detail about the health scare that she faced on Thursday, at the breakfast table. She described the symptoms that she experienced as “stroke like.” She had been taken to a hospital in Palm Springs. She didn’t need surgery as her body had passed the clot on its own. She also noted that she recovered in a few hours.

Hailey shared a heartfelt post about the incident telling her millions of followers that she was “home and doing well.” She thanked them and the doctors and nurses who looked after her.

Earlier in the month, she has shared a montage of photos and a loving message for Justin as he celebrated his 28th birthday.

Last month Justin Bieber was down with a case of COVID-19. He had to postpone his Las Vegas show of the Justice World Tour to June 28.

We wish the young couple good health.

Tom Brady is back as Bucs QB, 40 days after announcing retirement

0

Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. is back. The quarterback, who lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory in 2020, took a U-turn and said that he would be back for the 23rd NFL season. About two months ago, he said that he was retiring from the game to spend time with his family which includes wife Gisele Bundchen and their three children.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion had retired less than two months ago. He announced rejoining the team both on Twitter and Instagram. He had recently met Cristiano Ronaldo and the Manchester United team on Saturday, at Old Trafford, Manchester, England. He also met the Glazer family who own both the clubs. Fans speculated that Ronaldo influenced his decision to return to football.

Tom Brady said that he had realized that his place was “still on the field” and not in the stands, in the past two months. He also said that his retirement time would come “but it’s not now.” He expressed his love for his teammates and supportive family as they made it possible.

He also said, “I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa” as he had “unfinished business.”

Tom Brady retired from the game on February 1. These past 40 days have seemed like two months to him. But that’s not important as the NFL will be better with him playing and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ecstatic to have their quarterback, back where he belongs, in the team.

Although some followers roasted him on social media with comments almost similar to the roasts on Saturday Night Live (SNL) roasts, the team and many fans are happy to have him back.

The GOAT (greatest of all times) has won a record breaking seven Super Bowl titles. The football legend has been on the field for 22 seasons. He is back with the Bucs whom he lead to a Super Bowl victory in 2020 and the NFC South championship, last season.

He was earlier with the New England Patriots, with whom he shares six Super Bowl victories.

‘Feeling Fine’, says president Barack Obama after testing positive for COVID

On Sunday, former president Barack Obama posted on social media that he had tested positive for COVID-19. However, Michelle Obama tested negative. He also said that he was feeling fine, despite the positive result and expressed his gratitude for being vaccinated. Several leaders, across the world sent wishes for a speedy recovery to the popular former president.

The former president announced at 1:05 AM on March 14, on Twitter that he had “just tested positive for COVID.” He mentioned having a “scratchy throat for a couple of days.” He also said that both Michelle and he were grateful that they had been vaccinated and boosted and that she had tested negative.

Obama added that it was a reminder to get vaccinated for those who have not as yet taken a jab, “even as cases go down.”

Just a year ago, both the Obamas had publicly stated that they had been vaccinated and requested others to also get vaccinated. The former first lady had called vaccines the “best shot” to beat the virus and to go back to living a life where one could do the things they missed out on, in order to stay safe. Michelle also said that “getting vaccinated” would “save lives.”

When vaccines were first introduced in the nation, there was a high level of hesitancy to get a shot. So, four former presidents–Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama got together to record a public service message to popularize vaccines.

Former president and first lady Donald Trump took their vaccine shots privately when they were in the White House. In December, Trump confirmed that he got a booster shot.

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden have also been vaccinated and have got booster shots. So, it looks like all the presidents are safe from severe COVID as vaccinated persons generally get a mild form of the infection. Although COVID cases are declining across the nation, getting vaccinated or boosted decreases the severity and fatality of the infection.

Has Russia become the country facing the most economic sanctions in the world

0

As Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. and its allies hit back at the country by imposing economic sanctions on its rich oligarchs as well as on its export and import activities. The Russian economy has slowed to unprecedented levels, not witnessed since the end of the Cold War. It has overtaken Iran and has become the most sanctioned country in the world.

Although Russia will suffer from economic hardships, past economic sanctions on countries belonging to the Middle East have shown that there are consequences that follow such sanctions. Generally nations who are sanctioned by a group of allies move towards their adversaries.

In the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emerging super power China has not voted against Russia in the United Nations. Vladimir Putin was one of the few leaders who attended the Beijing Olympics. There is a stronger possibility of the relationship become even more stronger after the economic sanctions by the West and its allies. It could also redraw relationships with other countries who are Western adversaries.

Western sanctions have hit the pockets of Russian oligarchs and their luxurious lifestyle has come into the forefront, something the ordinary Russian may or may not be aware of. Luxury exports such as seafood, diamonds and alcohol have also been blocked by the West. Although these sanctions will effect the fortunes of the rich who run these export industries, the normal Russian who lives a simple life will also get affected.

However, the closing down of McDonald’s,   Yum Restaurants, Starbucks, Coca Cola and PepsiCo as well as gaming and social media could have a larger impact on both the multinationals who earn a lot feeding the ordinary Russian with Western foods as well as Russians who have got used to taking such Western goods and services for granted due to their easy availability.

From a nutritional perspective, Russians will go back to eating their simple and hardy foods. However, they would most probably miss the sodas, burgers and pizzas and other Western aspirational items that had become the norm in Russia, until the Ukrainian invasion took place.

Hailey Bieber hospitalized after ‘stroke like symptoms’, returns home

On Saturday, model as well as wife of Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber posted on Instagram stories that she had recently been released from hospital. She explained the incident to her millions of followers. She said that she had been admitted for “stroke like symptoms.” Earlier in February, Justin Bieber had suffered from COVID-19 and had to postpone his Justice tour. There were doubts whether she had caught the infection from him.

She was admitted in a hospital in Palm Springs on Thursday. This was the recent second health scare in the past few weeks after her husband’s positive result. However, Justin is said to have recovered. She recently celebrated his 28th birthday with a post filled with several photos and a message filled with love.

In a detailed post the 25-year old said that she was having breakfast with Justin when she suffered from “stroke like symptoms and was taken to the hospital.” The medical staff found that she had “a very small blood clot in her brain” which had decreased the amount of oxygen. However, she said that her body “had passed it on its own” and she had recovered completely in a few hours.

She described it as “one of the scariest moments” of her life and expressed her gratitude to the “amazing doctors and nurses” who took care of her. She did not need surgery.

She concluded by thanking everyone, who had reached out to her, for their “well wishes and concern” as well as for the “love” and “support” that they had extended to her.

Justin Bieber responded to her recent health scare on the same day by posting a picture of both of them on Instagram. The pop star added the following words to the post: “Can’t keep this one down.”

Gabby Petito’s Parents Go After Laundrie Family

0

(Photo: Twitter)

Despite the fact that Gabby’s death was ruled a homicide by manual strangulation by a coroner, the new lawsuit says she also suffered blunt force injuries to the head and neck. The news was first reported by WFLA.

On Thursday, Petito’s father, Joseph, and mother, Nichole Schmidt, filed a civil claim against Christopher and Roberta Laundrie.

Brian Laundrie’s parents are being accused by Gabby Petito’s family of allegedly assisting him in fleeing while knowing he murdered the vlogger.

Petito’s parents also claim that Laundrie informed them of what happened “on or about” August 28, one day after she died. They said that the Laundrie family knew their son murdered the 22-year-old and that they were intending to help him flee the country.

The civil lawsuit against the Laundries is based on some fresh allegations not previously disclosed by the FBI, which is conducting the investigation into the Petito and Laundrie cases.

Petito was “believed” to have been murdered by Laundrie on August 27, 2021. According to the lawsuit, Laundrie’s parents met with attorney Steven Bertolino on August 28 and on September 2, sent him a retainer. They then refused to cooperate with authorities, issuing a statement in which they expressed their desire that Petito would be apprehended.

According to the lawsuit, Laundrie exchanged text messages using Petito’s phone after she died probably in an effort to conceal the fact that she was deceased. It also references a text message Laundrie reportedly sent to Schmidt on August 27 in which he refers to Petito’s grandfather by his first name — Stan.

Petito’s mother had earlier expressed concern that the final text message triggered red lights because Petito never addressed her granddad by his first name.

According to the lawsuit, Laundrie then texted Schmidt on August 30 from Petito’s phone, saying there was no service in Yosemite Park in an attempt to deceive her into believing her daughter was still alive.

The lawsuit questions the Laundrie family’s camping trip in September, while the Petito family was suffering attempting to locate her after Brian returned home from the road trip. Around September 10, Schmidt claims that Roberta had blocked her phone number as well as her Facebook profile. The Laundrie family had not even informed Gabby’s parents that she was no more or that Brian had abandoned their daughter, the Petito family claimed.

According to this week’s filing, Petito and Schmidt are demanding at least $100,000 in damages, claiming that they endured pain and mental anguish as a result of the Laundries’ “willfulness and maliciousness.”

Daylight Saving Time Starts This Weekend March 13

0

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 2:00 A.M. On Saturday night, clocks are set forward one hour (i.e., losing one hour) to “spring forward.” Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2:00 A.M. On Saturday night, clocks are set back one hour (i.e., gaining one hour) to “fall back.”

When Germany first set the clocks forward on  April 30, 1916, it became the first country in the world to use DST on a national level. However, the town of  Thunder Bay  in Ontario, Canada implemented DST as far back as 1908.

President Benjamin Franklin first proposed the concept of DST in 1784, but modern Daylight Saving Time was first suggested in 1895. At that time, George Vernon Hudson, an entomologist from New Zealand, presented a proposal for a 2-hour daylight saving shift.

However, if you travel to Arizona, get ready to move the clocks again — they don’t observe Daylight Saving Time; they stay on Standard Time all year round.

Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and most of Arizona don’t observe the time change.

The U.S.  had daylight saving time as early as 1918, with the current federal policy being enacted in 1966, as the Uniform Time Act. Several changes occurred along the way, mostly altering the start and end dates of DST. The current enactment was part of the  Energy Policy Act of 2005. The U.S. Department of Transportation is responsible for overseeing DST and the country’s time zones. All states but Hawaii and Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) observe DST. The territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands also do not observe DST. Federal law allows a state to exempt itself from observing daylight saving time, upon action by the state legislature, but does not allow the permanent observance of DST.
